So it looks like another weekend of sunshine on the cards.... the mrs wants me to take her out for the day on saturday... 'somewhere nice that's not a beer garden'..... somewhere where we can chill out and soak up some sun in the northwest... any ideas? all suggestions welcome (apart from walton gardens).

Pennington's World of Nazis has excellent picnic facilities, or so I've heard.

If Mrs DC is up for a bit of a stroll you could try Conwy mountain. It's not that high or too difficult has great views, loads of good spots to stop and if you time it right you head along the beach back to the pubs and chippy on the prom. Been told new Brighton is good only 20-30mins away aswell think that's where were heading

New Brighton is a building site at present.....Might be ok in a few months when its complete, but when I was working there last week, it was just full of dust and temporary traffic lights....

Southport - something for everyone!

If you go to New Brighton, take a crab line with you and some cheap rashers of bacon (stay together well on line), fish on the steps on the side nearest the main road, not the popular board walk. You should get plenty of large crabs. Kids should love it.

Little bit cold yet, but when it gets warmer, nip down to Wast Kirby a few miles past New Brighton. You can walk across to Hilbre island at low tide. You'll need shorts and flip flops but nice walk.

Had a great motorbike ride out to Ironbridge recently, down the A49 to Whitchurch then a bit further on.

There is also Delamere Forest, especially if you fancy a bike ride.
