Watching him at leigh i thought i could see glimpses of what he was signed for.

Not the fastest winger in the world..... but he seemed to have amazing awareness and strength.... some lovely running and vision of where players were around him.

im expecting lots of tries and lots of assists..... easy to see why centre is his favoured position.. the ability shone through in patches.

expect to see him and his centre swap round during the game often. (if he is to be a winger)

defence looked a bit tasty as well.....

in his own words, one of his biggest strengths is catching cross field kicks to score tries off... tailor made for briers.

he could well end up being the most effective player in his position.

What will he bring?

Hopefully plenty of disappointment to the opposing team's fans.

Watched the full highlights of the Leigh game and to be honest he seemed to be the carbon copy of Hicks only younger, so i don't expect much more and no less than what we had last season to be honest.

THINK he has the skills and awareness of Hicks but a bigger guy. Don't know if he will be quicker but he looks stronger. Can see him sticking to the touchline and scoring tries. Plus the option of moving him to centre if it'll help.

i think he will bring a different angle to our game.

im not knocking hicks, as he was, and is a wire legend.... i think joel will create alot of problems for the opposition with his presence..... im expecting big things.

What do you think he'll bring 'extra' MDC ?

more assists and dominance from his side of the pitch... i think we will see lots of tries that have been a result of him taking 2/3 men out of the line. I think we will score lots of tries from him coming inside and drawing the fullback in... then putting someone under the posts... probably myler.

OK out of curiosity, what will we lose when comparing him to Hicks ?

i don't know.... it would be easy to say lots of tries....

but joel's try scoring record in the NRL is way better than hick's was before he joined us...

im expecting us to benefit.

hicks was a great player for wire..... but he missed a large chunk of the start of last season, and you could argue we played our best rugby then..... im not trying to play down hicks... he was a quality player.

no room for sentiment in top level sport though.

i think joel will be more of a weapon than hicks was.... time will tell though.

couldn't be more nervous about this one. Most unsure i have been in a while of a signing. He is coming on bad terms and is an Australian (needs easing in and coddled; cause they are all soft

lol jk. they appear to need time to settle) with the constant abuse it will either make him stronger or crush him. The past suggest foreign players struggle if they aren't happy at a club. the Orford fiasco. He wasn't happy at Bradford and so didn't put anything into it

Well since Joel was pushed from my team, the Canberra Raiders, I've decided to follow your mob too. Hec, I even bought myself a Wolves Jersey which I'm going to be wearing to all Canberra games this season!

So to answer the question, albeit not in context of your current team (many of whom I'm familiar with from NRL anyway) but rather the individual qualities he brings, here goes:

- Quick. Very quick but sadly this last season I'd seen his speed drop off. That'll be age....
- High Ball. Raiders 2-3yrs ago were known for the 5th tackle kick to Monners in the corner and he was exceptional under it. I really hope he regains that jump of his because it was a weapon.
- Defense. He's an outstanding defender, something that can't be said for most younger wingers (at least in NRL) and has a great work rate. Does very well hanging onto someone.
- Attitude. Genuinely a really positive, fun guy. A joker full of enthusiasm. You won't see him drop his head if the team's up against it.
- Pretty safe hands, rarely spills the ball.

Haven't checked if I can get the games on TV here but will be certainly following on this forum and the net. I'll post a pic of me at the first game in the jersey too

Well pommyraider I think he has already shown us glimpses of your description. I thought he stood out this weekend, at our first game, in a team that was struggling. Like the thought of a wolf amoungst the raiders
