Just a quick rant.
Called in the Stag after footie today with 14 other chaps and my 10 yr old. Everyone bought drinks, as you do. Manager comes over and said "who's the kid with?" "me" I said. "Kids aren't allowed in here unless they're eating" "He'll have to go outside" he said.
Shame he didn't say that BEFORE we put £50+ in his till.

Are there any other pubs like that around town these days?
I may need to make an 'avoid with kids list' for future reference

If so, then my sister and her family had a similar experience there about seven years ago. They went for a quiet drink with my parents and their daughter, my niece, who was at the time, less than twelve months old. The staff waited until my brother-in-law had bought a round of drinks before telling him that they would have to sit outside as they had kids with them and there was a wake in the pub (this was mid-winter!). The widow at the wake heard this and insisted that there was no problem whatsover with the baby being there, and to make it even worse the baby was fast asleep in her pushchair making no noise whatsoever. Despite this, the staff insisted. They drank up and left and since then not one member of the family has stepped foot in the place.

Hmm. Must admit, when I go to the pub for a pint, I don't want to be surrounded by kids, fair enough in the food sections, but not in the pub.

That's not the point, though. It's that you're told 'no kids in here' after you've shelled out for a round.

I did think about having a 'kick about' on the bowling green, studs n everything.
Seriously though, my lad has to sit n watch a load of grown men kick a ball about for nearly 2 hours for his little reward (J20 and crisps) in the pub only to be chucked out to wait outside. He wasn't even allowed to look at the flavours.
I'm just a bit worried that the next away game has a local boozer with the same crappy policy.

I used to work at Statham Lodge and we sometimes used to go to the Crown in Lymm after work, and just after they refurbished it i'm sure that they didn't let under 21's in unless they were eating... Needless to say we took our custom elsewhere... dunno if this is still the case though, haven't been for a year or so...

I haven't got kids but mates I know who have don't take them to the pub. Try that in future and you won't have a problem.

The worst one has to be the miserable git who used to run the Farmers Arms - no manners and had an attitude like he wanted nobody in the place.

I think you will find it is the terms of his license to sell alcohol. I would think his license says that kids are only allowed if they are eating.

So if they won't let your children in you can ask "Oh you must have been selling to underage kids then?"

gets my goat when they tell you after seving you and not before had problem in town once with me wire hat on ,served me then told me to remove hat.refused to remove said hat as they had served me with it on but agreed to leave after finishing pint bought,it was the princible of it.

kids can drink one alcoholic drink as young as 13 providing they are having a meal its in a leaflet sent home from the high schools

It is "supposed" to be law that Children are only allowed in rooms where there is no bar unless they are eating food, although there are a few pubs that make that exception.

I go in there occassionally as I live nearby, and in his defence there is a sign by both doors advising that kids are only allowed if eating, and then they have to be sat in the conservatory, or the library room, and have to be out by a certain time in the evening, think there is also soemthing that prams / pushchairs are not allowed at all.

More often than not he raises the kid eating question before anyone buys a drink.

I have 3 kids myself, and we take them to pubs and restaurants fairly regualarly, sometimes we get bounced like you did, but it's fair enough, there need to be some pubs that are kid free.
