Load of rubbish IMO
[i"Warrington has won its first Challenge Cup Final in over 30 years by downing Huddersfield in a game that was terrible, frustrating and gives me little hope for the English game.
I don't watch much Super League football these days because its so frsustratingly bad. I always like to catch the big finals though, and very rarely do I ever get to just enjoy the game without being amazed by the lack of quality football on show.
The 2009 Challenge Cup will stick with me for a few reasons though.
Firstly because of what Nathan Brown has done at Huddersfield, its nothing short of a revolution and it is something I hope starts a trend in Super League.
Nathan Brown was never seen as one of the better coaches in the NRL. Tactically he was sub par, his man management skills left a lot to be desired and when it come to the crunch, he fell by the way side like most of his team used to.
He was sacked by the St George/Illawarra Dragons at the end of last year and took the job at Huddersfield.
You can see what he has tried to do.
Firstly, Huddersfield are the fittest looking Super League club I have ever seen. Brown has come in an applied NRL fitness standards at the club and you can physically see it in his players.
Brown has employed a rushing defense, he likes his players to keep active and work hard. He also has them making more efficient tackling than the opposition.
In attack he keeps it simple with the team guided by Hodgson and Fulton.
They try to play very much an Australian style. Field position, repeat sets, apply pressure to the opposition, try and force mistakes.
They are not great at it, to many typically English brain explosions and bouts of panic, but I see what Brown is trying to do and I hope for the sake of the English game other clubs try to copy it.
Warrington won the match on the back of their first 12 minutes where they scored 18 points. It was a typically paniced, scrappy stanza of football that I thought was rubbish. For that to be the game played in such an important match, its embarrasing.
Once both sides had settled down Huddersfield took complete control of the game. They played the percentages and they started to claw their way back into the game.
Come the 60th minute I thought they were ready to run over the top of the Wolves. However, Brian explosions by a few of their English players released all the pressure and killed their chances.
Warrington held on, they won the match, and the only redeeming factor from their win is that their owner, one of the best in England, gets rewarded for all his work, and Adrian Morely gets to captain a side to a Cup win and show why he is the best English player in the last 30 years (Oh yeah, I just went there!).
It was a terrible game overall though, comically bad at times"[/i
Thoughts please

| When i saw the game i thought hudds bosed the whole game but when watching the video we were in controll for most the second half. I also thought it was a good game, maybe could have done with a spectacular try (almost provided by King) or lead swings. I like to see a game where good defense is on show (i.e. opposite of basketball).
Maybe Hudds dropped the ball to many times to make it a great match

Okay so i am wrong...............
Maybe i thought that because our errors were on the last play or happen inside their 20, not in the middle of the pitch

| He only seen what he wanted to see. He doesn't like Tony Smith so, as far as he's concerned, everything associated with Smith is poor and means the game's going in the wrong direction.
I think the majority of neutrals who watched it knew we were the better and more deserving side.

The umbrella, rush defence is fine unless the opposition goes wide quickly and then you are stitched ............. which is exactly what we did on Saturday - and they were stitched. So where's the big "rap" for T Smith in working this out and getting the players to do it?
Simple attack - fine. But if you rely on 2 players exclusively and they are bottled up/don't deliver on the day then you have no plan B to go back too. We had a lot more players involved in the decision making and it worked, the Giants were a bit lost as to what would be happening next so their defensive "A" game was out of the window.
Field position - pressure - mistakes........... and that's it, that's the Aussies in a nutshell? I'd be seriously, seriously bored if that were the case and wouldn't bother watching.

he's just a troll with more imagination.
If he thinks that Huddersfield are the best the Super League can offer in terms of excitement and challenging the NRL because they are similar to the Aussie sides then i fear for the NRL.
I like Giants fans i like the club but their game is THE most boring and negative in SL

| to be fair to League freak he's a cock and knows nothing about Rugby League why he even writes about it is beyond me. but anyway......
there is a piece in the Rugby League express by an aussie writer in a similar but more sensible and Knowledgable tone.. and he too writes of his dissapointment in the game in one bit he actually writes Wire "were sitting pretty and then appeared to be going through the motions" .......
yep I know Morley hit Crabtree like a cannonball in the middle of the second half but thats just him going though the motions....
If fui fui moi moi does it its a big deal and they stick a 6 page glossy pullout in the Sydney morning Herald
The writer says he felt like that because he says he was spoiled by recently having watched the best game of the past quarter of a century west v eels.
quarter of a century I $hit you not...Jarryd Hayne was outstanding and Benji Marshall made a try scoring pass from Behind his back....other than that it was just a good game like any other
but seeing as that round of NRL matches was called "round of the decade" they were never going to talk any of the games down where they.
throw in commentary with gus gould "who could find a positive in a knock on over the try line" and youre bound to get a Eddie and Stevo type hyper excitement.
the game had knock on's poor kicks and bad last tackle options...
the NRL's a great league but talk it up without being ridiculous and without talking the British Game down in the Same paragraph...
Australians...

| I must have imagined the Australian Brett Hodgson having his kick charged down in the 1st minute to gift us a try. Must have been all that big match / pressure 'football' experience he got in the NRL.
Personally - I find the NRL dull as ditchwater. It's like Serie A in comparison to the Premiership.
