Of course he wouldn’t. I was just saying that’s the only scenario which would make me happy.
Just my *opinion* that he’s not the same talent that he was when he started out at Saints, and a bigger risk on that sort of salary (if the figures quoted are true) than a decent current RL player.
Whilst Sandow was a risk based on history (and one that ultimately didn’t pay off) I don’t think you could class Hiku and Roberts in that category. Hiku is a current NZ international and Roberts was a regular starter at a NRL club.
The best comparison you can make is Charnley but he’d only been out a year and playing on the wing and not on nearly as much money. I guess we’ll see how Eastmond fares and I’ll be the first to come back on here and eat humble pie if he lives up to his wage packet...

Fully agree. I'm extremely excited if it turns out to be true. The only concern I would have is that his fitness record hasn't been great over the past 2 years. That said, if he was to regain full fitness, he would be without doubt one the most dynamic runners in SL and a huge asset.

Yes, Jake Trueman looks the part at 18 and would command a infinitely lower salary. Or even a big money transfer for Gale. He’s two years younger than Eastmond too, even though I don’t rate him (Gale) as highly as some do.
Kevin Penny showed so much potential with some freak tries that first season or two... if he’d gone to Union and scored 4 tries in the last couple of years would we be as excited as we seem to be over Eastmond?

| But the difference there is availability and Eastmond would be without fee. In the unlikely event that Cas would allow either Gale or Trueman to leave, they would want £100-200k and that is not without some risk.

| To me a right side with Eastmond and Charnley shouts peaches and cream.
The best right side since Bridge and Hicks and potentially much better.

Well Sam GW and Barba slipped the net under TS when offered more money making me look like I'd just made the stuff up.
Let's hope your right Snag.

That was pretty awesome too. In hindsight that would have been the correct statement. Just got a soft spot for the 1st combo being the one that worked like I've never seen since Jiffy played right side.
....our current right side isn't a patch on the Bridge partnerships.
Eastmond could fit the bill.

I'd be happy with that.
However our owners think bigger than us...profile of our club is massive for them.

This.
There's proven RL talent out there if we pursue it hard enough. I don't want to be sat here next year wishing we had cap space to bring in a half or three-quarter to rescue a season. Sure, I know Hiku went home for other reasons, but it's clear that proven 'average' back line players from the NRL can look very good in SL. Im just not quite so sure that an older RU player can do the same on such a high salary. As I said earlier though, I'd love to be made to eat my words.

It isn't, but he still operated at left centre. Didn't stop him popping up on the right hand side for a set play however.
Just watched a youtube video of his Warrington tries - lovely stuff.

It was in 93-95, before squad numbers were invented. I only ever remember Jiffy on the left or at full-back when Bateman was playing.

Interesting you should say this as on Redvee this was said
"Let Wire sign him - you can prety much write the scipt already:-
Eastmond signs in a blaze of local publicity (the Warrington Gazette)
Wire fans will hail him as the new messiah and claim they're going to win everything
He'll score on his debut sending Wire fans into a frenzy and start a flurry of RL chatroom trolls gloating how they signed the best player ever
3 games later he'll get injured and will limp is way through the remaining 2-3 years of his contract keeping the treatment table warm."
Substitute "Luke Walsh" for " Eastmond" and "Saints" for "Wire" and I can see what you mean. But what if you substitute "Barba" for "Walsh"?
I'm not suggesting for one minute that Eastmond would be as successful as Barba, but that sometimes a risk will pay off. Don't forget Barba was anonymous last season.

| Yeah sod it let's get Lilley, Drinkwater or Finn instead. Why gamble on quality when we could be guaranteed mediocrity instead. Stupid board with ambition.

| No no and thrice no. Ive heard Roberts is off back home at the end of the season as he cant settle in england but your club must resist this time of signing to appease the fans. I watch a lot of union and have seen a lot of eastmond. Well I say a lot, his injury record in union was just as bad as league and I just cannot believe a super league club would want him. Hes lost his pace and that jason robinson esq pace from a standing start due to bulking up so much over the past few years. He has zero bottle, which you can get away with in union but not in league. I am very surprised that a club on the up, such as yours would be interested!
Regards
King James

| So much negativity.
He's a duel code international without a transfer. A 2 year deal with a 50% and 25% cap relief, in a £2m limit, provides a low risk acquisition. The facts completely out balance the what if's.

Exactly. It's not as if we don't have the cash either.
Imagine if he went to Wigan and tore it up. There would be angry comments on here as to why we didn't go for him.
