| If it was me in charge, my pecking order of Wingers is......
1st ALWAYS put Monas first!
2nd Williams
3rd King
4th Evans
5th Riley
Although I think belly has the right shout for what TS is thinking (maybe swap bottom 2)
The reason why me and TS would put Riley so low, I would assume, is because of his defensive frailties (1) and because of his over running his centre (2); both really big mistakes. He can play wonderful at times but I have always been worried of those two reasons with him. I am not saying he only had walk ins last year.

Somebody got ridiculed on here for asking about coach day trips to Perpignan. I suggest that putting Williams ahead of King is even more idiotic.

Don't see why. I'm sure he's a very good value for money squad player to have. He has never been a starting 13 player for me so I don't see what has changed.
Plus he isn't out of contract.

| I think its fantastic that there is so much competition for those wing spots, it can only be a good thing for the future.
You just hope that the younger lads remain sensible and don't lose patience if they go 3 or 4 games without getting a game.
Certainly, Riley's slip from regular to almost outsider is an interesting one, but, again, it says more about the rise of our younger players then any negatives to Riley's own game....I'm pretty sure that Riley will re-emerge at some point and do a fine job.
Also, without dragging up the whole Penny thing again, its quite telling that Smith released Penny without seemingly much of a second thought, even though he is obviously happy giving unproven lads a go in the team....It would seem that Penny never really registered with TS as much of a player?

But TS called Kev Penny up for the train on squad back in 07 or was it 06 so he must have seen something

On performances so far Williams is ahead of King on performances.
Next week that is the order I would play them in. A pecking order changes (hence the nature of this thread)
If you think playing King in the first team the first week recovering from a career threatening injury, call the men with the straight jackets.

So why is he third in your list? Surely you wouldn't play him ahead of Evans and Riley a week after recovering from a career threatening injury, call the men with the straight jackets. You counteract your own argument.

| It's great to have some choice in our backline, Williams performed very well I thought he didn't look out of place, finished his try well.
I think the problem with Riley could be his confidence, a few times I've seen this year he hasn't backed himself and gone down the outside to score, where as the Riley in 09/10 would have blazed down the left flank and scored. Williams did it last night, you need to take your chances in this game.

Admittedly, there is no reason for Riley to be below him (apart from I think he is lacking the skills) but Rhys is ill and I personally think we should ration when we play him. Don't want to damage youth.
If Rhys was well I would play him ahead of King, yes.
So fair?
As I say I am unsure of Riley's place in the team.

Williams
Riley
Evans
Ive always been a big fan of Williams and he has never looked out of place. I would rather see Williams in there ahead of Riley in the future. Riley still has more experience than Evans so i would put him ahead. But over the next couple of years Evans could take over Riley however i think Evans is a better centre than winger.

Left wing is probably the most contested position in our team at the moment.
It would appear Riley has a very difficult job getting his place back.'"
i hope ts puts king in at centre when he comes back as he is miles better at centre, plus isnt evans a centre?

| At this rate I could see Riley following Penny out of the exit door, his lack of size seems to have finally gone against him with Monaghan, King, Evans and Williams all having much greater pure power and pace.
My mate Army Man was saying that Hodgson can't possibly play every game and deserves a rest sometime so unless we bring Riley back to cover full back thats the only way he will get a look in, but Bridge could also play there too.

COuldn't agree more with that. His confidence seems to have been shot from the mid-point of last season. He was the form wing of SL for a large part of the season and in the Wigan game he was absolutely outstanding. From then on he's been poor and it's confidence that seems to be the difference. Saying that though, it's his job to front up and put in the performances to make him worth picking; with so much competition, any player who's mentally fragile will be found out and can expect the boot.

Talking to Steve Broomhead after the Crusaders game, he made mention of this lad we've signed from Bradford, saying he'll be getting some game time soon, so it looks like he's the future 2nd choice full back, not Riley or Bridge. A specialist full back is always better than a converted wing or centre.

Is this the lad who has played on the wing all year for the u20s?
Burke has moved to half-back to allow Riley to play full-back in the u20s so to me its pretty clear who is considered back-up full-back. Mind you I guess Broomhead knows better.

| Is Riley being nurtured as full back? That seems to be the position he prefers, and Smith was always singing his praises + lads only young? Hope He's not out of it he made cock ups earlier , but always seemed to learn from them. Got to like the lad, even though a few seasons ago I wouldn't of minded if we got £20 to get rid of him lol
