| Surely jake mamo would be a improvement on Greg minikin. But doesn't mamo count towards the cap.

| I loved Mamo whilst we was at Wire. He was the most exciting player we had. Scatty as hell but what fun. He would count on the cap. Not for me now even if there are times he would be handy.

| Mamo had a great last half of a season in the last year of his contract. Until that point he was in and out of the team and didn't light a game up at all.
By the time he suddenly hit top form for the first time we'd already signed mata'utia. And since he's been at Castleford has he hit that form again........no.
Mata'utia doesn't light super league up but he's a solid and consistant centre who defends well and has a great work rate, i'd take him over Mamo any day to be honest.

| Quote ="Fantastic Mr Cat"Oh there's a fair bit if revisionist history going on here, yes I get contract year form but he'd been good from 2020 into 21, he was an attacking threat that didn't need any set up just half a gap to make his own chances.
Did he ever throw crap passes like in that wigan game? I don't recall any, would I have him on the wing? Never, but you can't fault his play at centre, Austin didn't do him any favours defensively. Would i overpay him? Probably not but I would have kept him in favour of matautia who I'm still not convinced by.
Now off the field is another matter, I think im right in saying that all members of the prc have now left the club? Who were actually reported as being a set of mards behind the scenes.
That says a lot about that collective of individuals'"
I think Walker was in it.

I'm fairly sure that if you blamed Boris Johnson, it would not have been frowned upon.

| Powell knew the task ahead of him when has agreed to be our Chief Coach.
With the plans he had to move a lot of our players on, some that were fans` favourites, he needed some allies in our team.
For me that is why he brought Matautia with him from Cas.
There were players in 2022, that weren`t trying and hoped that their lack of effort would lead to Powell`s dismissal.
Matautia is not a classy centre, but he gives every game his best shot, is a tough opponent for opposition players and never takes a backward step.

Its funny you say this, as obviously he brought Holmes as well and he was out the door, this was covered a bit on the podcast kf did with Wilkin the other week, and was interesting what he said.

He did indeed and whilst I've not listened to the podcast it's to Piwells credit that he got shot.
I've no idea whether this was attitude or performance based and I was rather looking forward to having him at Warrington based on his Cas exploits. But it didn't take me long to figure out he'd had his day out now.....

Yes of course he brought Holmes too.
The Holmes move was a disaster, and Powell had no option other than to move him on, which he did with all the other players that departed last season. Not sure how Holmes coped with all the hassle in the dressing room and if he thought Powell would be sacked, so tried to keep a foot in both camps.
There must have been a lot of peer pressure from the dissenters on the new players and also on the players that were staying on for this season.
I rated Holmes when he played for Cas. He played on the right side attack/defence for us when he had played on the left side for Cas, but Currie already had that position at Wire.
He also brought another ex-Cas player in Minikin btw. and to me that again could only be to have support in the playing squad.
Tony Smith brought Richie Mathers to Wire, when he had dressing room issues as part of the deal when Martin Gleeson was booted-out. Most of the Wire fans didn`t want Mathers, but he did OK and helped Smith to grasp control of the player group and the rest is history..

| I too think Mata’utia was brought here for more than just being an average centre. I don’t expect him to be here next year, but if he has played a part in Powell’s plan behind the scenes, that’s good enough for me.

We offered an NRL centre a contract on Xmas Eve which I believe is still happening, so I doubt Matautia will be here next season.
As for Mamo, his situation is definitely not something that I can put on this board, but it will all inevitably come out in the wash.

Fascinating this. Is the NRL Centre a good acquisition in your opinion and would he greatly improve the centre position?

And do the NRL club fancy England’s most highly paid centre as a freebie to sweeten the deal?

That would be harsh, as she was appointed karetaker coach at Westminster, three days after our season had finished.

| I think Paul 2812 confirmed that we didn’t offer a contract to Gildart.
I would imagine it would be a youngish lower ranking NRL centre, who showed some potential during the World Cup (for one of the ‘lesser’ nations).

OK, Thanks.
I wasn`t advocating that we sign Gildart, I will be disappointed if he joins us.
Given that he looks odds on to return to the UK next season, I was asking Paul if he was the centre that we are interested in.
