| McCurrie holds the record for most tries scored in a season by a forward in the p&b, how does that make him a bad signing?

I must be thinking of something else here; not sure what!
He was far from a poor signing though regardless.

| Didn't we sign Matt Sturm on a four year deal at the time & he played most of his time at other clubs because we couldn't get shut. Not sure if he came at the same time as the famous Matt Rodwell . As for Sullivan, my memories are that he was one player that used to be on Rauhihi's shoulder when he made a break & for some reason he wanted to be a halfback but he was more a hooker.

| Sullivan was just over here to pay off his gambling debts. Shocking signing.
Kevin Walters has to be high on the list. Did he play just the one game?

| We signed Walters to re-create the most famous half back paring from the Broncos, and neither of them captured their glory days with us. Walters went home as I think his wife was very ill. I'd put Steve Blakely ahead of Walters in the worst signing bracket around that time.
Wedge was a fair tackler, but my problem with him was his offloads, blind panic into empty space more often than not the completely wrong decision and very often 20 yards from his own line.
But by far the worst was Matt FN Rodwell.

Have to agree, then we had it again with Monas!! Cullen was adament he was a 7, played one half at 9 and had a blinder when we beat Leeds in the play-off. Think he would of been good for us if used right.

Top try scoring forward in the league that year, think it was 00.
98 he was something of a blob, 99 (when he cut his hair) he looked something decent, he also worked well off langer in 00, 01 was fairly indifferent but possibly had one eye on widnes return to SL, where he turned to again.

Only remember him having one decent game against Wigan at Wilderspool. As you say the sun must have been out. You could see he had the ability he just couldn't be d.

| Jon Clarke?????? Had a good career off being average, probably not his fault because he was never a hooker. And before anyone brings stats into it,we all Know if you touch the opposing player it constitutes as being involved? And believe me that's all he did..........

| In no particular order - Teitzel, Doyle and Currier.
Rocky Turner was pretty awful once he didn't have Mackey alongside him to flatter him.
Rodwell doesn't get on my list as he was treated pretty shabbily by the fans IMHO and was used as a scapegoat for Anderson being utterly clueless. He also gets extra bonus points for his postings on the old wolfweb forum, until the abuse he got became too virtiolic.

Thought Rocky was ok. Never had any speed about him but we've had a lot worse play at 6. Good kicker too. Scott Wilson and Adam Doyle strike me as the worst halves I've seen for us. Agree with about Rodwell, his young family bore the brunt of it. Shameful.

Yeah, OK, sorry for the gratuitous pic of him as a right fat knacker, but he played like he was in his fifties when he was with us.
Roach remains the most disappointing signing ever IMO. He was a fully fledged Aussie international, with a massive reputation. He is named in the top 100 Australian players OF ALL TIME. He was, clearly, a proper player.
For Wire, though, he was bloody diabolical. Bossed a game against Keighley in the CC. Tremendous. Apart from that, he was toilet.

Agreed....If ever somebody just turned up for the cash, it was Roach.
Players like Rodwell, Wilson, Sullivan etc, were not particularly good to start with, so it can be little surprise that they flop when over here, but as Worthing Wire says, Roach was THE best forward in World rugby at that time, so to turn in the rotten displays he did really hurt to see.
The most appalling thing, in that same season, Les Boyd came out of retirement for half a season, and despite being past his best, was still head and shoulders above Roach, who needed to take a close look at his compatriot for a lesson into how to actually earn the big wedge that Warrington had paid to them both.

| I reckon of my time watching Warrington the era 1995-1998 would have to go down as our prime era for making bad signings. We seemed to have a scattergun approach for signing players, a load of them were duds.
We've made bad signings before and since but nothing compares to that era for the volume of them.
