Have I missed something here? Matty Russell?

One would argue an emergency "back up" winger is the last position we need to fill. We have Thewlis x2, Ashton, Minikin and I'm sure some academy players who could slot in if 3 of the above got injured.

I'm all for redemption, but the last time he was here the lad admitted to having serious issues. I wish Russell well but I don't want him near the club

Totally agree. I'd be more than happy for josh lynch or Jack Derbyshire to fill in any spaces in the backline when we're struggling. I'd put re-signing matty Russell as a worse signing than latu!

So the cycle on here seems to be…
1) We are going to sign X player rumour
2) Lots of posts about him being great/rubbish
3) Even more posts about why it is taking so long to announce
4)Lots of “typical Wire messing it up/leaving to last minute
5) Rumour starts that the rumoured signing has decided not to come
6) Total meltdown… he is rubbish anyway, didn’t want him/if he doesn’t want to come balls to him/ KissKam out
7) Signing announced, unalloyed joy, everyone congratulates the club and KF for getting it over the line

Williams. He did it literally all of last season.

Williams' short kicking game is top class. Can't speak on Drinkwater too much as I didn't see him play much last season or in his career to be honest. But I just hope his long kicking game is good, because if I'm honest, Williams might have one of the worst ones I've ever seen!

But he was constantly running at the line last season. He was on the right for the first half of the season. As much as he tried, it just wasn't working, but when we moved him to the left (where he played for Wigan, and because Widdop got injured) he looked comfortable and effective running at the line, creating chances regularly. Just his long kicking game is absolutely poor.

Agreed I think he will allow Williams to shine & he does the basics very well, when I’ve seen him at Catalan albeit without much flamboyance I think it’s quite an astute signing.

The most disappointing factor is that we haven’t signed an out and out quality strike centre. No doubt we will end up signing five centres next year but then be short of second rowers or some shy te like that

Glad that my original question has got a decent answer. Think Drinkwater will go well behind a refreshed and beefed up pack playing alongside Williams. IF we were to sign a decent centre I might start to think we have a chance of winning something again.

Ratchford is fine at centre and will do a good job.I've no issues with left centre other than if ratchford is injured who moves there until Wrench is fit?

I wonder why Drinkwater was such a late, late acquisition, and that bothers me.
I'm reserving judgement until 6 games into 2023, which should tell us whether there's a change in desire and structure on the field of play from last year.

A few options. Minikin at Centre, move Thewlis to Centre and either Russell or Minikin on the wing or move a SR, either Currie or Nicholson, to Centre with Harrison going to SR.

There were media reports from Australia linking us to various Half-Backs (as there always are), when nothing came off we got the 'Ratchford is the answer' comment from DP, then Drinkwater became available late in the day and we moved for him.

Looks like a decent outcome, on paper.
