| Theo Fages has handed in a formal transfer request according to tomorrow's League Express. He's looking to leave as early as the end of this season. At least 8 clubs are said to be monitoring the situation.
Not good news.

| Again if true I hope it is his Agent who is trying to get the lad a bigger slice of the Pie. Why are Salford always so slow in signing up players. I for one would be sorry to see him go.

| FFS, this clubs turned to $hit! All we ever do is go from one big drama to the next with this guy as chairman. We may now loose one of our best academy lads for years because he insisted on signing big names instead of investing in youth. No need for Locke and Dobson, you reap what you sow Koukash you clown. Roll on our next big disaster!

It's not as simple as that when agents get involved and young players heads have been turned. Jordan Turner was offered a good deal to stay a few years back and Ratchford was offered a record deal. (Not to make an album) No club wants to lose their best home grown talent but we aren't an elite club so it's always going to happen unless we start competing with the top clubs.
It will be a huge embarrassment for the club though if Fages leaves because MK was quoted saying that Salford were no longer a club where other teams come along and cherry pick our best young players? Evalds could be next because he's got vulture target written all over him.
Just a thought, I wonder if Alan Hunte's dismissal has had any bearing on Theo Fages transfer request?

Unfortunately, one of the flaws in Theo’ game at the moment is his kicking game or lack of. Hence the need for Dobson.
Also, how many were saying there wasn’t a need for Locke when we signed him, he stepped off the plane and had a wow of a game at Huddersfield? Niall Evalds couldn’t have been further from peoples minds back then.
Quote ="theredshed"Just a thought, I wonder if Alan Hunte's dismissal has had any bearing on Theo Fages transfer request?'"
Seen as though all this Theo talk started when Hunte was employed by the club I doubt it.
Contract talks between Theo and the club are at 'advanced stages' then from nowhere Theo hands in a transfer request. If ever a reminder was needed as to who has the upper hand in these negotiations, Theo' agent has just reminded everyone. Also, lets not forget this is the same agent who represents Gareth Hock, so has previous for the handing in of transfer requests.

| How long he got on his current contract ? How much would salford want for him?
I think he's looked good this year and I hope we are one of the clubs looking at him.

Disagree with that!
If he were to move to a top 4/5 team he'd still be playing second fiddle there as he is here!
Do you honestly think he'd oust Brough, Smith, Myler or Walsh (when fit) from the No. 7 shirt?
The only top 4/5 team who I think would be interested would be Leeds as Burrow is coming to the end of his career.
I'm sure they'd be thinking a bit bigger then Fages though, especially with the Marquee Player Rule coming in.

He'd be on bench at saints covering roby at 9 and covering halves. He's just what we need as we never give robes a rest and he's pickibg up more and more injuries.

Contracted until 2017 after signing a 5 year deal in 2012. Considering this I can't imagine the club allowing a young international halfback to leave for anything less than £150k. Also if there are 8 clubs sniffing it could force the price up considerably.

Depends who the 8 clubs are. They might not be clubs able to pay a fee.
I must say though the timing is odd after Long and Cunningham both praised him in the press this week. I'd be surprised if Saints were in for him, it's not like us to bully clubs into selling a player. I wonder if it's just his agent thinking it's his best opportunity to get him out there whilst he's a name a lot of people are talking about?

The extra Sky money could help. I don't see the panic to sell unless a club comes in with a big offer. The club could allow him to leave next year and still command a reasonable transfer fee.
Does anyone think Fages could be on Leigh or Bradford's radar if either get promoted and have a larger player budget?
MEN article says his contract ends this year but this says otherwise.

| Who would've thought it? We give a 29 year old aussie a 4 year contract and the young prospect coming through in the same position decides he wants to leave. (See also, Marc Sneyd).

| I understand the Dobson signing, Theo has a lot still to learn in the game but I have to agree that 4 years was ridiculous at the time. It certainly doesn’t send the right message out to Theo does it?

| Surely we can rule Saints out as they must have loads of top class halves coming through the youth system that means they never buy anyone (apart from all the people they buy).

What's that about? Of course we sign from outside. We do produce more than anyone bar Leeds and Wigan though.

| I can see Warrington being interested in him, have seen various news items about Myler being of interest to NRL teams and that Smith was urging him to take any offer made to him.
One team who hasn't been mentioned seems the most logical to me in Catalan, getting one of their own back and for Theo it means a move home and you'd guess certain inclusion in the French squad rather than bit part appearances.

| It might be worth noting that even if Theo ran his deal down, he would still be too young to walk as free agent (the Bosman ruling kicks in for players aged 24 years and older). So unless the club agree to let him go for nothing, he won’t be going for nothing in the foreseeable future!

Yeah it could be the case of agents increasing their client’s bartering position. Was reading the other day about Gus Risman asking for a trial at Arsenal in the early 1930s, which was seen more of a way for Gus to secure more match pay than a genuine threat to leave.

| Confirmed club offered Theo more than he asked for but he has still rejected the contract and asked to leave. He isn’t willing to continue negotiations and just wants a move away from the club.

Is the good Doctor taking the wrong medication currently? A world record fee
There does come a time to dig your heels in, but rather than being so bullish when things like this crop up, Dr Koukash would probably be better considering why this has happened in the first place. If he fixed those elements, maybe things like this wouldn't crop up so much. It doesn't seem like this is related to money, Salford claim to have beaten Fages demands and on longer terms.
I'm not sure how cashed up the Dragons are at the moment, but would like to see them take Fages back. The best French players should always play for a French team to encourage the sports development over there. Saints certainly won't be paying a world record fee for anyone, I certainly can't see us reaching six figures.
