| Hock and Morley play with pride and passion unfortunately some of the team don’t seem to care,or are they just not good enough? its not the defeat it’s the manner of the defeat Huddersfield and yesterday reminded me of last season I’ve watched every match this year and apart from the odd flashes of brilliance it’s the same mistakes time and time again, a season which promised so much looks like ending like so many others, I believe in patience and with the backing of the Doc we will eventually become successful but some of the players need to put the effort in!!! Play for the shirt as the above-mentioned do week after week!!

| You watch Castleford this year and they are a very determined and enthusiastic team who work extremely hard for each other because they have something to prove after Rangi left. The players are putting the effort and commitment in for the respect of their club, coach, and their supporters. By contrast many of our players at this moment look like lost, privileged individuals who signed solely for the pay cheque and not the future success of Salford Red Devils.
So far there appears to be a complete lack of inspiration, cohesion, unity, confidence and motivation amongst the ranks. What a waste of money it was flying out highly paid sports physiatrists to the teams high altitude training camp in South Africa. Perhaps we should have brought in Daryl Powell as a consultant instead?
I feel it’s going to take Harris some time and he will have to make some smart decisions if we are going to see the level of improvement, and more importantly the consistency the club needs to progress.

| Yesterday totally shattered me, I was gutted, I can honestly say I’ve never felt more deflated after a Salford defeat. If the players can’t perform in a very winnable challenge cup they shouldn’t be at the club.
The last 10 minutes slightly masked over what was a terrible performance and everyone I have spoken to is well and truly fed up with it. I know there’s plenty of time left to turn the season around, but I don’t believe the players have the heart to do it, a lot of them are here for a big fat pay cheque and as much as no professional players goes out to lose on purpose, to them if they do get beat, it’s just another game.
The lack of pace in our backline is frightening as is the lack of a goal kicker and Noble needs to take the blame for some p*ss poor recruitment.

Yes I know just how you feel. It wasn't that we lost it was the fact we didn't turn up for a huge game.
I certainly wasn't one of those giddy supporters expecting big things this year but I have to admit I never for one second imagined the situation being as disappointing as this.

Agree with you Ave It especially the last part. Noble should be blamed for 12 months of boredom as well.

Couldn’t agree more I felt the same I’ve been living in hope week after week that the team would gel but after yesterday I cant see us getting any better and the familiar sight of us at bottom or near bottom end of season is looking more and more likely!! Lot of fans I spoke to yesterday have lost faith!!

Considering yesterday's shockingly low attendance it appears many had already lost faith in this new team before yesterday. Poor team performances are obviously now costing the club a small fortune in lost revenue. Approximately 2100 customers down against Huddersfield on a sunny bank holiday compared to our first game against Wakefield on a cold February afternoon. Followed by 4,500 supporters down from our peak yesterday for a big cup tie in decent weather.
I think the bigger crowds at the start of the year shows there is an interest by the Salford public but not if it means following a team that aren't winning regularly, challenging and playing entertaining rugby. A lot of extremely hard work needs to be put in now by the players and coaches to try and win these people back.

| The Salford public are fickle, fair weather fans on the whole. Barring our hardcore support the rest will only ever turn up if we are winning regularly. Which is what's happening.

I think a large part of the difference between the attendance at the Wakefield game and that at the Huddersfield game may be down to the number of away fans at each, while cup games nowadays always draw smaller attendances, and not just at Salford.
That said, I think we are losing support, just not to the extent that the examples you give suggest. Unfortunately, performances like yesterday's aren't going to help slow the decline.

I agree. It's pointless though canvassing the players in schools and local public venues if the team are going to shoot the club in the foot.

I appreciate what you are saying but a more competitive Salford also impacts on away support travelling to Barton for a more competitive fixture.

| To be honest, I've lost my enthusiasm for Salford, so much so that I just couldn't be "bottomed" driving from Blackburn yesterday....does that make me fickle???
Don't get me wrong, I will be there for the league games, with my extra VIP season ticket that I initially hoped I would use at each home fixture in an attempt to recruit more fans to our great club but it's becoming embarassing now!!!!
The Huddersfield game for me was the most deflating feeling ever, and I had to endure a 4 hour drive up to Perth afterwards which is crap at the best of times...
All I hope for now is that the team put in a decent performance for remainder of the season, regardless of results as all Salford fans deserve it!!!!

I did notice in the west stand a lot of empty seats normally occupied by season ticket holders maybe be if a discount to ST holders had been offered the attendance might have been better

Many reds fans maybe fickle who can blame then after watching years of failure if people pay good money they want to be entertained unfortunately we the "Hardcore" who turn up week in week out regardless are few!

I certainly wouldn't put myself in the "Hardcore" group of Salford fans, for couple of reasons, firstly, I ain't Salfordian (let alone bred in Englandshire) and secondly, I have a life that prevents majority of away games, however, I do agree that without entertaining rugby, many will stay away and it's a god damned shame as a successful Salford could give the younger generation something other than "fairy footballers" to look upto

To be fair, Challenge Cup attendances where the home team was a Super League club were low across the board yesterday. It’s clearly a phenomenon that goes beyond the season ticket issue.

We went into the Huddersfield game on the back of successive away wins at Hull and Bradford and so were competitive at that time, yet it still didn't attract many visitors from Huddersfield. As I recall, there was a guesstimate of about 1400 Wakefield fans at that first game, and I'd guess at no more than 200 from Huddersfield last week, so there's getting on for two thirds of the 2100 reduction you mentioned. In fact, we had a pretty impressive turn out (impressive for us, anyway) at Leeds a couple of days later.
As for the Challenge Cup attendance, well, sadly, the cup now appears to be little more than a vehicle for fans of Championship clubs to go onto SL club forums and whine at them through pink, tear-streaked faces about how poor their attendance was compared to the magnificent one-off attendance at their own fixture (no more than a couple of hundred greater, usually), which surely means they should be in SL and not you. Bless. Fans of SL clubs just don't seem to be interested in the competition any more.
But that's not to say everything is rosy. Home support is flagging, but not by as much as you suggest. Not yet, anyway. I think the bigger effect our erratic performances are having is in making it difficult to attract potential new fans.

That is definitely the issue.
I've a spare VIP season ticket that I bought in order to treat friends with, and struggle to get any mates to give a game a try now because of what they are reading/hearing from others.
It's been a complete waste of money this season but at least I've tried...
Just hope we survive this season and show promise next year!!!!
