| Salford have a good team on paper ... where have I heard that before.
I wouldn't want to put any more pressure on the team by suggesting a league position before a tackle is made or a point is scored .
It seems a constant talking point on non Salford forums nevermind ours.

You can tell you don't Gamble from the way you have printed the odds Salford at 2/9 .Wigan at 1/250

The way EB has 'printed the odds' is correct!!
Wigan are 1/250 ON (Bet £250 to win £1) to finish in the top 8.
The other way round, (250/1, Bet £1 to win £250) for Wigan to finish in the top 8 would be the bet of the century.

Is it unreasonable to expect a top 5/6 finish?
Wigan proved this year that you don't need to fill your team with out and superstars. Provided you can give your players all the best support off the field and get them defending aggressively as a team, then anything is possible. Let's not forget Wigan have built their success on the back of foundations laid by a certain Brian Noble.
My only concern is, have gambled too much on certain players? Keeping seasoned players like Morley, Puletua and Meli fit could prove a challenge, then you have the questionable temperament of Chase and Hock and we have also signed two fairly unknown overseas players in Rapira and Mullaney.
On the plus side, at the Crusaders Noble did an excellent job of bringing together virtually whole new and getting them into the play-offs, and there is fair amount of quality in the side.

Not Unreasonable.. Aspirational
If the Squad we've accumulated had been at Salford for a few seasons & the Club was accustomed to winning regularly & being a top 8 club was a ' given ' .
However , we were 14th , used to being outside the 8. and are practically a new club from Name , Players, Coaching staff & now even the mascot.
Brian brought a big broom and the plan is to install a winning culture , but to go from 14th to 6th or even 5th considering the changes we have made , will make us the club of the year , the last similar rise up the league table was Catalan Dragons 14th (2010 ) to 6th ( 2011) .

| Regarding a top eight finish/eighth I think like the doctor probably a lot higher with his investment, at least sixth IMO, look I've supported Salford for a long time now seen the glory of the seventies side that should have won more than it did and spent the following thirty years watching er ????? however with MK's investment I personally don't believe finishing eighth is where it is at. Hull fc spent a year getting there to be hammered by SEVENTY odd points. Eighth is an average side in my opinion and I think MK has put more into it than that.
What do fellow Reds think. ?

8th is mid table and wouldn’t be good enough with the quality players we now have at the club, I don’t think its unreasonable to expect Salford to finish 4th or 5th and I can imagine this is a minimum requirement from the Doc considering the investment

I think maybe you're getting a touch giddy. To get into 4th or 5th spot we'd have to displace one of Wigan, Warrington, Leeds, Saints or Huddersfield.
Now I hope as much as anyone that we might do it, but in our first reconstructed season I think it remains a hope not an expectation.
I'm just looking forward to us competing, not being rolled over as so often in the past and definitely getting into the play offs.

| A play-off spot is what we should be aiming for.
There's not many Clubs that have come from bottom of the pile to world-beaters in one season. Especially a Club that's coming from almost not existing. What's going in our favour is that no other Club has had such a vast restructure so quickly, especially behind the scenes. Last time we made big improvements to the playing side it wasn't matched with the attention off-field. The sweeping changes all around mean that there will be almost no old cobwebs, ideas, and infection from our old set-up.
Of course, such wholesale changes could make things difficult too.
A vindication of the good work done so far would be a play-off spot. I'd love a fairytale season but they need to build solid foundations for the season following which will make us even more attractive to future player replacements.
