Whilst we're on the cusp of announcing the best signing in the clubs recent history, lets cast our mind back to 12 months to the day when we were faced with the very likely possibility of our club falling into extinction.
As we all know, Marwan Koukash who has been revelation for our club wishes to purchase the ownership of Swinton Lions but will only do so with the full support of the Council with regards to building them a new stadium within Swinton at the old St Ambrose Barlow site.
Whilst these plans would be huge for Swinton Lions as a club, just think of the wider impact on Rugby League as a whole within the City of Salford.
I would therefore encourage you to sign the petition below as well as forward to others who may be keen to show their support.

Done. I think it would be massive not only for Swinton but also Salford and the whole city to have two teams really competing at their respective levels in the game. The impact it could have on the youth in the area and to help raise the profile of he sport once again and to push participation would be massive.

In all fairness to Sale Sharks, it doesnt say they do not want Swinton to play at Barton. It just states Sale have a clause within their agreement, whether they would enforce this or not is uncertain.

Great gesture by John Kidd. Most Swinton fans were not happy he did it. Hopefully things work out for Swinton and now our owner has saved them, they might be able to put to bed all the years of moaning about Wilky etc. |

Let's just remember Koukash hasn't saved them yet and will only do so if the Council agree to support his idea/vision for the development in Swinton.

I would imagine it's to early to say, we're talking about quite a substancial development. I would imagine the Council will be cautious to be seen to be 'wasting' further public money on the City's sports team, but I can't them refusing to assist Koukash and his team in developing the proposed land. The mayor is quite friendly with Marwan and he will have a huge say in all this. |

What's the current position in respect of the land? Who owns it? What is the plan for re developing it? I imagine the Dr No of the council Karen Garrido will have some objections. |

I believe it's the old St Ambrose Barlow playing fields, which the Council own. I'm sure Garrido will have her say, but ultimately it will come down to the mayor. Hopefully all goes to plan as it's just the type of development and regeneration Swinton needs to coincide with the new Gateway, Asda etc.

Done. Being a Salford fan living in Swinton in the Kenny Gowers era, all of my mates were Swinton fans and I regularly went with them to Station Rd. Swinton is a traditional Rugby League town and Swinton should be based in Swinton. Good luck!
