THE TRAFFORD CENTRE: The complex will be built close to the Trafford Centre, at Barton near the Salford City Stadium and the Manchester Ship Canal

Peel Group and Salford city council have announced plans for a new retail and leisure complex near the Trafford Centre which could create hundreds of jobs.
Peel, which owns MediaCityUK at Salford Quays, and the council aim to develop 43 acres of wasteland at Barton near the Salford City Stadium and the Manchester Ship Canal.
Their joint venture company is keen to see a variety of occupiers, from retail showrooms to hotels, restaurants and pubs.
The scheme is being made possible by a programme of infrastructure works, including a new road linking the site with the Trafford Centre, due to be completed by summer 2014, followed by improvements to access to the M60 the following year.
The works will also improve access to the stadium, which was developed by the joint venture and has seen some complaints over access problems, particularly for pedestrians.
Cushman & Wakefield are agents for the new scheme.
Director Andy Hall said: “It is a very rare thing to be able to buy plots right next to the motorway and a regional draw like the Trafford Centre.
“The road infrastructure isn't currently the best, which is recognised, and these infrastructure improvements will help solve that.
“There are a broad range of potential occupiers. It's very early days but we are speaking to a few parties.”
Peel said the development would benefit from its proximity to the Trafford Centre, Chill Factore, Trafford Golf Centre and the Salford City Stadium, which is home to the Sale Sharks and Salford City Reds rugby teams.
Peel property director Ed Burrows said: “We are pleased to be able to bring a new retail and leisure opportunity to the market.
“The site is next to the newly-built Salford City Stadium and will benefit from easy accessibility as well as high visibility from the M60 at Barton Bridge.”
The site has been split into seven plots ranging from 0.5 to 20 acres, which will be sold or let.
Planning permission has already been granted for 230,000 sq ft of bulky goods retailing, which includes categories such as furniture, white goods, camping and DIY.
Salford's Mayor Ian Stewart said: “This is an exciting opportunity at a prime site that is set to undergo significant redevelopment in the next couple of years.
“It will bring new job opportunities for Salford people when we really need them.
“Businesses can thrive in Salford and we will do what we can as a local authority to support those who want to invest in the area.”

I think the sand well and truly needs kicking in the faces of the cowardly crusaders in an effort to stop them hiding behind their computers. I encourage you to grow a pair, I'd be more than interested to know the outcome? ![THINK eusa_think.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//eusa_think.gif)

this was in the original - sorry revised planning permission , but is still really a footnote to Peels burgeoning list of Retail, Logistics, Transport & Media empire.

So the silver lining :-
we get a place for a Pub Meal , or a cheap hotel , while we wait for the car park to clear and an extra road out
and the cloud :-
we lose all the temporary additional parking added to to derisory 650 space car park adjacent to the West stand so even less people can park there .
however at this time of writing it matters not one bit, with the club in limbo and our squad decimated . By the time this is in place 2014-15 if we exist what level of the game will we be playing and will anybody care ?

I think derisory would be more appropriate to the parking facilities at the new St Helens stadium. When I went to Leigh for the last match against Wakey I just parked on supermarket car park. With the extra retail and new road it will probably offer more parking options than currently.

| Don't forget on the parking there is plenty of land that is yet to be turned into parking at the back if the East stand.
Can't see how anyone can have any issue with Peel wanting to make the most the their investment by building retail units. Would anyone complain if we end up with a nice place to have a drink and bite to eat before the game right next to the stadium.

So Wilky gets praise for coming up with an 'idea' that he had no ability or funds to carry through? Sounds like his entire reign as Chairman. That's if I have decoded your post properly.
