| I have to say the general mood amongst Salford fans has deteriorated markedly over the past decade. It seems nobody actually enjoys going to games any more and that it's more a combination of ritual / socialising / self flaggelation.
So in an effort to lighten the mood slightly, when was the last time you enjoyed being a Salford fan?

| There's a type of pleasure in knowing that whatever happens, there is an up or down around the corner. So no season was fully enjoyable ... pushed for one would be those two before we were allowed into SL under Gregory: we beat so many with attractive rugby.
My last really enjoyable game was at that blue dump in east Manchester when the crowd got behind the Reds and we beat Shuddersfield.

| Good thread, being a Salford fan at the moment is a weird one personally I think some of the players we have just flat out don't want to be here and I've never felt like this about a squad before I don't even want to go to the match because of their attitudes and the stuff we see on Twitter, I suppose if it was around a few years back then we might have had some of the same problems. I don't think I could ever walk away from this club but at the moment its thin ice. Need new people running the club imo but there's more chance of pigs flying
My answer to the question is probably 2006 everything was coming up Langi for us and the general mood around the club for 95% of the season was brilliant, the day of the game was excellent some good times back then before including and after the game couldn't wait for the weekend to come. 2008 was also not bad, back in the lower league obviously it was the die hards going to aways and we had some good days and some memorable games like the battle of Featherstone and the semi final at Celtic Crusaders etc I'd give anything to have days like '06 again.

On a serious note, it's probably when Andy Gregory was in charge, as i was genuinely optimistic for the future. Since then, it's been more or less the same every season, not even a good cup run to fire things up!

| I'm always happy to be a Salford fan, no end of bickering and infighting to keep us entertained. This year we've had some sparkling rugby and some unpolished turds.
All in all I'd not swap it for anything.

| The last time I enjoyed being a fan all the way through a season was 2003 or 2006. This season has had a few really good moments though, especially towards the start when we won 3 on the bounce.

| I know we had to move from the Williows and times change etc, but for me going to a home game hasn't felt the same since we left. I just don't get the same feeling anymore!!!

About a month ago rugby wise, although the last time I was actually positive about the future of the club and the direction it was heading off the pitch was a long time ago.

| I'd also say 2006. We had a team that really played together for each other and a coach who everyone respected, and I still do. Since then it has been relegation, inconsistency, moving to a new but ultimately soulless ground that I hate and now ongoing rumours of financial oblivion.
The worrying thing is a lot of us have gone past the point of getting wound up by yet another defeat. Personally for me it is just a habit now and seeing people I don't see that often. If it all disappears, then at least I've met a group of people I wouldn't have otherwise that I am happy to call friends now.

| I suppose this is about more than the odd game.
I have been disillusioned about the club for a number of years this has been as much about the club as it is about players.
We have a new stadium and should have made this home but we have allowed the stadium company to bully and dictate everything.
I hate the memebrship scheme, just give me a quote for my season ticket, membership is a good idea for occasional watchers.
I am sick of players like Patten rubbishing the club at what seems every chance.
Having said that we have had a number of brilliant performances this season, so full of hope.

| Where is his loyalty? The club pays his wages, it's easy to complain but I don't see him offer any solutions.
Like many on here.

| Yes he does, he owes the people who pay his wages. If he doesn't like it he can go somewhere else.
Like any employee you don't abuse those paying you.

Not true, YOU care about the club as do many others.
2006 was the last time I really enjoyed watching the team. Beating Wigan at home twice in a month and thinking we could get to the Challenge Cup Final.
This season; London and Warrington games at home. Magic weekend; beautiful weather, great atmosphere and superb team performance. Walking out of the Etihad bursting with pride and hugging random Salford fans, wearing the shirt on the walk back into town feeling on top of the world. They are the games I will remember in years to come, not the dross served up last night and in other games this year.
Thats the reason I will be renewing my ticket for next year, with the hope and expectation of many more such days. The sad thing is with all the negativity on here from many posters and the rumours (many of which are without substance) could mean we end up like other once proud clubs such as Rochdale Hornets, Oldham and Swinton. No offence intended to supporters of these clubs, just the reality that they will probably never compete at the standard that they once took for granted.

Most fans know how it is, they arealso realistic to know money is tight.
Patten tells it how it is, interesting that I haven't read that much from him saying how poor he is in defence, how poor his mate's kicking game is. If he told it how it was he wouldn't look for easy excuses, Matty Smith could have been injured.
Patten takes the asy option in blaming others rather than taking a good hard look at himself. He is overpaid and far too quick to blame others.

| This is going to be stating the bleedin' obvious but I'll say it anyway.
Something like a Challenge Cup Final appearance could transform Salford into a club realsing its potential. Huddersfield were Super League bottom feeders for years and then with the right personnel in place managed to reach Wembley and now they are a top(ish) side.
I know its easier said than done, but something like a Wembley visit would pull all the armchair fans out of the woodwork, bring a big payday and hopefully knock on effects of raising home attendances, attracting sponsors etc.
The potential is definitely there at Salford. You might just need someone like Tony Smith for a couple of seasons.
In other news, grass is green.

| Andy Gregory's time as cosh is best I have seen at are club for along time. As for way club is run they don't have a clue marketing is none existent and players that play for us are never commited to playing. The reason is club as no money but it's down to players to perform well on field to make new spectators come to watch us. This will never happen at Salford and this is why we will never improve are gate. I have gone for over 20 years and the club never seemed to have been marketed right and people only come if you play well. Are attack this year as been great but conseding 30 points a game people will never come to watch that. Every year club come out and say we will be in playoffs it's about time this club was honest with fans and it self and say we will never challenge. I won't be wasting any more money to watch us not do or challange for anything. So why should fans be bothered when living costs are going up

Very well put. Nothing is as bad as some people paint it on here, but, unfortunately, this forum is starting to make Joy Division look like Half Man Half Biscuit. Even Bradford fans aren't as negative as some on here, yet they really have got something to complain about.
