| Hi, Im coming to the game on friday by train arriving at Piccadilly. Looking at the internet and reading through a few threads on here aswell [ regarding taxis, long bus journey, rush hour traffic etc i think the best and quickest option is the Metro Link to Eccles. But i was wondering how long it will take me to get back to Piccadilly after the game, trains are at 22.20 and 22.28. Can anyone please give me an idea roughly how long it takes to walk from the last tram stop at Eccles to the stadium ? Thanks.

| Think you're gonna be a bit pushed for time there, I'd say it's a minimum half hour walk back to Eccles tram stop from the stadium. There's shuttle buses to the Willows which might stop at Eccles on the way back, but I'm not 100% sure. A taxi might have to be your best bet if you're to get to Picadilly for 22.20/28, a taxi all the way to Picadilly too, considering the match will finish at 9.30 ish, and the tram would take the best part of half an hour.

| Google's walking direction puts stadium to Eccles tram station at 45 minutes. The tram then takes best part of 30 mins to Piccadilly.
Unfortunately our stadium isn't one that's good for accessing if you're pressed for time. The shuttle bus from the trafford centre takes over 20 minutes (well, it did when I used it) to do a mile or so because all road traffic from the East (most of Salford and the motorway) has to come through one roundabout.
You could try looking at Train times from Irlam, Patricroft or Eccles to Manchester, and getting a black cab from the ground to one of those stations - though the Eccles/Patricroft trains go into Victoria, not sure about the Irlam ones. Also, check the 63 bus; that got me from the Grapes (15 min walk from the ground) to town pretty quick after the Cas game, but not sure when it runs on Fridays.

| I've not checked any train times, but I'd say the best option is a train to Piccadilly, then jump on the tram to Manchester Victoria and get a train to Patricroft (takes about 10 minutes) then from there the grounds a 15 min walk. Or jut get a taxi from Piccadilly to the ground it will cost about £12, its expensive but if there's a couple of you probably worth it.

Your only hope of making a train from Piccadilly before half ten is to book a taxi from a local pub for 10 and make sure you're out of the ground sharpish. Cost would be £12-15 and takes 15 mins.
Can try Minicabs: 0161 789 5555 and nearest local boozer is The Unicorn.

I'd be astonished if you made it back to Manchester on public transport in time.

That's more like it...
As someone who uses public transport to get back to Preston from the match, trust me, get a cab. Using public transport I'm only guaranteed to make the 16 minutes past midnight train from Piccadilly. Relying on it for the times you're looking at is a no-go.

| As has been mentioned you have no chance of making that train on public transport, a black cab would cost about £20/£25 from stadium to Piccadilly and a private hire around £15? If that 22:28 is the last train then you definitely need a taxi.

| If your trains are 2220 and 2228 from Manchester Piccadilly, presumably you are travelling to Sheffield.
Please note that there's also a later 0015 train from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield. Does that help any?
N.B. To have got the earlier trains from Manchester Piccadilly, you would have needed to have been on the tram at Eccles for the 2140 departure (journey time = 34 minutes). This would have been just about do-able if the game had been at The Willows, but you've no chance now the game's at Barton.

| There is one alternative way back in to Manchester, which is to get a bus (number 100) towards Irlam railway station (normal journey time = 10 mins), so as to catch the 2148 train from Irlam to Manchester Oxford Road (arrive 2213) and the onward train to Sheffield will be right behind. This leaves Manchester Oxford Road at 2223 and arrives Sheffield at 2335.
However, you would have to leave the game slightly early, and be at the bus stop on the main road by 2130 to do this. Might be possible to pre-book a taxi, but again, if you haven't left the ground before the final whistle, you'll undoubtedly get snarled up in the post-match traffic.
