| Have to say I've been very disappointed with Tim Smith. At the re-launch, he was the player I thought may have been the best bit of business - the on-field organiser to complement Chase's off the cuff play. As it turned out, he has never settled, has made far too many basic school-boy errors and has not once looked like taking any game by the scruff of the neck. Letting him go back to one of our fellow 'relegation threatened' rivals is possibly the best we could have hoped for (cue him garnering MoM awards for them as they resurrect their season...)
Good luck to him, nevertheless.

| Don't understand this one bit. Problem for me is Chase, I think we have relied too much on one individual too much to the point I bet smith is thinking why the fook am I here? I concede he has been poor and gone is that lethal kicking game that ripped us apart so many times in the past, but I can't help but feel with Chase in the side whoever comes in isn't going to get a proper look in.

Both, but specifically quota spot (assuming Tim Smith was classed as a quota player).

| Quote ="FearTheVee"If I was a player or coach I'd think long and hard about joining Salford under the Doc based on how he's approached his ownership this year.

It seems players and coaches think long and hard about joining Salford and then join (Kevin Locke, BJB confirmed, Michael Dobson strongly rumoured, Gil Dudson and Darrell Goulding less strongly rumoured).
The way he's approached his ownership this year is to not accept failure. We (RL as a whole and Salford specifically) have a long and proud tradition of aiming low. Sometimes we miss, sometimes we hit, but we've always aimed low. Marwan doesn't aim low. Sometimes he misses, sometimes he hits, but he doesn't aim low. I know which one I'd rather have, and maybe that's what attracts people to the club (and upsets opposition fans so much).

True. Whoever comes in (Dobson or Sneyd) needs to be, at one and the same time, a leader and someone who'll play second fiddle to Rangi. It's a difficult one, but if we can find the right combination we'll get more out of Rangi.

I think whoever will be partnering Chase next year will have to have a top all round kicking game because this is one of Rangi's weaknesses for me. Either Dobson or Sneyd are more than capable. Sneyd edges it on the goal kicking where Dobson I feel would edge it on organising the team.

Scored more trys then any other Salford player.
11 players have missed more tackles then him.

It's an irrelevant point! Because he's well paid he shouldn't make mistakes?
Smith, Hansen, Chase, Morley, Hock, S'au, Gleeson and Tasi are all above him in the missed tackles list.
They're probably the biggest paid players at the club.
To put it in perspective with regards Meli's 'Woeful Defence', he's not even in the top 50 for all Super League players.

Only chase and Williams have a worse tackle: miss tackle ratio though, which should be used when comparing peoples defence
Meli will score you a boat load, but he'll also concede a boatload could of told you that at the start of the season!

I was hoping for Meli at another club when we signed him. More accurately, when Brian Noble signed him.

| We just need to have scapegoats .
Not that long ago it wasMatty Smith, remember ?
Then Tim Smith or Meli.
They're paid whatever it cost to sign them up,when all we had was a blank piece of paper.
That's not relevant when it comes to how many tackles they've missed, surely.
The scapegoating will continue........MacRae, Noble, both Smiths and the daddy of them all, Steve Simms

| I like Meli. I don't agree that he's a winger, he should be in the centres but he's scored some decent tries for us this year. They haven't all been in walk ins some people would have you believe either.

If there's a decent Jamaican contingent in the area, perhaps they can jerk the remainder and fashion up some decent oversized head gear for us with the residual coverings

How many has he attempted compared to those other players? Wouldn't mind seeing what percentage of tackles he's missed. Stats can be misleading. Anyone watching Meli this season would tell you he's been extremely bad in defence.

| Now I have a bit of information on player movements - and I expect more next week - does anyone know what is happening on the coaching side?
Noble, who had everything given to him wrapped in pink ribbon, had 2 assistants and then a consultant, who was/is either part time or full time.
Does anyone know whether Sean Long is still a consultant or is he an assistant?
Will Iestyn Harris have any assistants? Is there a plan B as it seems Flanagan is otherwise engaged?
Will either/or both of the ex-Warrington coaches be heading in our direction?

I Know you probably don't need another cas fan to come on here and tell you this but if you are signing Dobson, bringing back sneyd or even signing blake green,if your plan is to put them at the side of chase I honestly don't think it will work and you will just be in the same position again. The best season chase had at cas was playing at the side of danny orr,an old head and a good kicking game and I think you need someone similar. I await the you don't know what your talking about comments but the best signing you could have made to play with Rangi would have been Liam finn
