| Thanks for the welcome everyone! Tickets for the Grand Final are now booked for me and the kids - the wife is not quite ready to give up the X Factor on Saturday night for rugby yet it seems, but I'll keep working on her!
Going to try and get down to the willows on Saturday to get shirts for the boys and will pick up a ball while I'm there.
Was reading the Reds website today about all the signings recently - definitely sounds like we are getting onbaord at the right time! Does that make me a gloryhunter??

| Yeah welcome to the roller-coaster that is Salford RLFC. It's great to read your views and I, like everyone else, am delighted that you and yours enjoyed the experience.
If I may be so bold, what part of of the North West do you live?

| The greatest joy you'll find is the words "The Rugby League Family" : we get on. To prove it just look at what's happening in Cumbria just after the GF.
Welcome brother.
As they say in Australia .. they call this game TGG: The Greatest Game,
As they say in Papua New Guinea, football is for chidren but RL is for adults.

Not at all, doubt we'll be winning anything next season but in the next 5+ years, who knows aye? Glad to see new supporters in you and your family, hopefully the coach and players can do their jobs next year and get us in a decent position and play some good rugby, would be nice to see some good attendances again like the season we finished 5th, (think it was 06/07?) and attracted new supporters, the bigger the Salford City Reds community gets, the happier we are! Hopefully next season you'll get to experience the Shed at its best, over the past years its been absolutely class sometimes, and hopefully we can play some good rugby next season, attract bigger crowds and you'll be able to experience how good the Shed can get!
Hope you enjoy your time supporting Salford!

Seriously? From whom? It's certainly a wonderful atmosphere if you love the incessant drone of horns being blown for 80 mins.
To Nell Mangles Toyboy, thanks for your posts. It's great to see so much enthusiasm for the game & the club, particularly after what was a poor game on Sunday. We're often critical on here (and often with good reason) about the club's inability to get some new faces down for the games, so it's refreshing to read such a positive experience from a new fan. Welcome aboard & we hope to hear from you for many years to come.

Mate, the list of people that have said this to me is longer than my arm. Just remember mate, what we call an atmosphere isn't neccesarily what everybody else calls an atmosphere. 80 minutes of horn droning does it for some people. Not that horn droning is the only thing to expect at the GF I would imagine. I mean, that'd look a bit weird wouldn't it. 70,000 people in one place blowing horns for no apparent reason... No, I'm sure there's a lot more going on and all well received from most fans, if not by our refined selves!

As for official forums, well, I believe there is an official Reds forum but this is the real deal. Stick with the Turkey mate.
I wouldn't worry about embarrassing yourself with a lack of knowledge. Most contributors on this forum haven't got a clue and yet they get by! (Sorry peeps, only kidding
)
Hey, if you need any pointers or advice on the game, you need only ask. It won't take you long to get up to speed.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum!
i only asked about the official forum because i wanted to post on there to say thanks to the staff who dealt with me at the museum and when i phoned up but hopefullt they will read my post on here anyway.
Thinking about taking the boys to the Grand Final now, is that usually any good? Shame the reds aren't in it lol'"
it's usually fantasitic! and i recommend you get in touch with an amateur club (as i'd recommend to anyone else!) and buy tickets through them...they then get cashback to re-invest in the local amateur game...

Well said Shirl.
you cannot beat the moment when you get a shiver singing "Abide with me". it even makes numpties wear fancy dress for the day.

Would have done that had I know, unfortunately i have already bought them now through rfl.com!
What age can kids join an amateur club (and how dangerous is it? lol) - mine are six and eight, and are there any clubs around the Chorlton area?
Also got a letter from the club today inviting me to the player of the year awards! Tempted, but the kids can't go and they might not forgive me if I go without them

| NMT they do have christmas parties for the kids where they get to meet the players and stuff, i am looking forward to taking my child for the 1st time this year, he wont remember it, he probably wont care much but if i can get the wizard to hold him for a photo least i can tell him he was touched by greatness : PIMP:
I do think a award ceremony for the kids would be a good idea, perhaps invite some junior\infant schools the club has dealings with during the day or a saturday morning kids love that kind of stuff

Found a Presentation by John Blackburn on the Salford Exhibit in Trafford Centre Museum.
Worth watching if only for the bit where the camera scans across a poster of Paul Forber, made me laugh

Think it's by invitation only. starts at 6PM
donated some gear when they were setting up the exhibition.
The Tutankhamun exhibition opens on Friday so i guess the whole thing officially opens to coincide .

| Can someone give an Aussie a break and give us an idea of the museum contents...
Heavy reference to the 1930s glory period of Risman & Co? Would have to be surely...
Much on the pinched Red Devils reference?
One of my favourite RL photos is of one Emlyn Jenkins scoring a try in France during the 1934 LDR tour.

Also stood next to Ian Blease , looking at a picture of ... Ian Blease and didn't recognise him
Great turnout and an emotive speach from David Watkins prior to the opening , Salford exhibit easily the best put together section in the museum so congratulations to everyone who helped put it all together
