That's because you live in Widnes.
The view is much the same across the rest of your town too.

| Excellent pictures wing commander Biggles.
I look a couple of times aday but the scale only really srikes you when you see it like that. Though why is there nothing being done on the section nearest the houses?. It just seems that that bit is being left?. Would be good if some technical genius type could overlay what will hopefully be going where? as i'm still unsure.

7.4.1 The Bowl
The stadium bowl has been designed to maximise
spectator comfort and atmosphere, with sightlines that are
well above average.
20,000 spectators can be accommodated in the
completed stadium, including 5600 standing spectators.
The Main Stand accommodates 4,500 seated spectators,
'"
Looking at the documents on the council planning website it shows plans for both phase 1 and phase 3 (The latter showing a second tier of seating above the standing areas in the horseshoe. What I find confusing is phase 1 will only accommadate 10'100 spectators which is below the minimum 12'000 required for a Superleague license? And what is phase 2? It just doesn't make any sense!!

| Phase 1 of the scheme will house 12,000 fans, this is shown in the drawing title of the plans.
Phase 2 it would seem will add another tier to the side stand only this will increase the capacity to 15,000. Phase 3 would then add another tier to the stands behind the sticks at each end resulting in an overall capacity of 20,000.
This is only my take on the scheme so my apologies if im completely wrong, wouldnt be the first time!!

I know it shows 12,000 on the phase 1 plans but if you do the maths by adding the main stand seating capacity plus the standing capacity it only totals 10,100. Where are they going to get the extra 1900 from?

This is shown on the council planning website!! The section of land nearest the houses is for future development I think. Some of the land will also be needed for another roundabout and the future link road to and from the M60 motorway(WGIS)-(See drawing below)

I've not looked in detail, but what about the seats for the other side, opposite the main stand?

Maybe phase 1 includes 1900 seats on the side opposite to the main stand. It's just I wouldn't have thought they would have got 5600 standing behind both posts because on the plans it shows terracing only 9 steps high. Unless the two standing corner sections make up the number?
It's confusing because if you look at the above image it doesn't show seats in the lower tier opposite the main stand. Maybe phase 3 includes taking out the seats on the first tier (Phase 1)and making it standing?
Here's an image showing the inside of the stadium.

Here is a drawing from the planning site showing the second roundabout and the future link road to the M60 motorway that will take up some of the land you mention above.
It shows a new motorway slip road north bound and a new road that will run parallel to the M60 for joining the motorway south bound at the trafford centre junction. When the new roads are built If you are travelling south to the stadium you will come off at the Peel Green junction on to a new road that runs parallel to the M60 and then turn right under the motorway bridge. For the residents of Barton, Cadishead and Irlam this should make travelling in the mornings much easier by alleviating the build up of traffic at Peel Green roundabout.

| i think that is a perfect stadium for the reds, i always said when watching the reds when playing leigh at the lsv that we'd go well in a stadium like theirs, just one problem that needs to be cleared up, are the seats actually going to be green? Would appreciate if someone could clear this up. Tar

| Could the green seats be in there to neutralise the stadium? Could be embarrasing having smaller crowds than secondary tenants in "our" ground.

It seems a lot more complicated than just upping sticks and moving to the new Salford stadium, for instance Sale bought Edgeley Park in 2002 and if they did move what would happen to Stockport County and would it stack up financially if only one team (tennent) was playing there?
There was a news story about 3 years ago of Stockport wanting to buy the ground back but nothing came of it. Apparently when Sale bought the ground for 3 million from Stockport there was an agreement made with a ten year option for the football club to buy it back for 4 million. As you can imagine it’s not an ideal situation at Edgeley Park with a lot of resentment from fans of the football club insisting if they were in a position to buy it back Sale would have to go.
I can see the appeal of the new stadium to Sale with it’s modern facilities, extra capacity and a prime location that is nearer to their original roots. They have also had lots of pitch problems with two teams playing on Edgeley Park over the winter months. I know the London Wasps fixture was postponed just before kick-off last November because the pitch was that bad. This lead to a lot of remedial work with talk of an estimated £500’000 having to be spent to re-lay the pitch this summer.
The question is are Sale as interested as they make out or are they using this as a lever with Stockport Council to either build them a new ground or to help them financially to redevelop Edgeley Park? Or is their interest genuine with the hope Stockport County with possible help from the Council will step in and buy Edgeley Park back from them?
There was a lot of talk in the past of Manchester United reserves possibly playing at Barton but I've not heard it mentioned for some time now.

| Even though there's a couple of things I'm not keen on with the design, seeing the pictures for the first time in a very long time I actually had a twinge of pride.
Lets see if those involved can keep their sh*t together and actually build it now.

| Quote The Northwest Regional Development Agency was dealt a blow as the government announced it was slicing £52m from its annual budget. The cuts amount to 18 per cent of the agency's overall budget, and chief executive Steven Broomhead said that some projects that had been promised cash would now end up losing out.
‘Our budget for 2010/11 is already 90 more than per cent committed and we will be forced to review some projects that have already been approved.’'"
Will this affect us?
