| It seems we will now have a points based system, which appears clear enough. I'm assuming that you only get 1 ban per level of points and then incur the next ban as you move up to the next level. It should see fewer initial suspensions but could result in long bans for persistent offenders and will carry across seasons so you could bring in a player with potential suspensio s looming

| Interesting. That could definitely see a few players sitting out for awhile towards the back end of the season.

| It's certainly an interesting development and should in theory make things easier and clearer but if Cullen and the MRP are still involved, think its safe to say it will likely make little difference in the way some grades were given last season with the points that are handed out. It’s the disparity between similar incidents and punishments given that was/is the big issue and not sure this resolves this.
The one good thing is that it at least addressing the appeals process in terms of clubs appealing when really there was very little to validate an appeal.
Its doesn't really say how they will determine the actual process as in reviewing the players charged, I assume any player charged and then given 'no case to answer' will not be given any points?

| Where are we on the armpit tackling?
Do I recall right that they're not introducing that this year due to the successful reduction in head impacts?

Yes there was something I read by Matthew Shaw I think that confirmed that they aren't bringing it in for 2025 for that very reason, hopefully 2025 will carry on the same so that it won't require implementation in 2026 or beyond for the good of the players and sport.

Fits in well with IMG.They love spread sheets and points systems so we know where this has come from

| Presume they’ll be clamping down hard on players in the first two weeks of the season with a flurry of cards and suspensions and then revert back to anything goes from Week 3 when player welfare no longer applies.
That’s what happens most years.

I think they always go too hard in the early weeks, presumably to set the tone, but then everyone gets annoyed by all the penalties and bans so they tone it down again.

The NRL. They run a similar system

This is absolutely bonkers, so Sao and others now face lengthy bans this season, based on what they did last season, even though they already served bans for those offences last season. I'm losing faith with the sport rapidly

| Making a pretty substantial change to the grading system and not allowing players to start on a fresh slate is absolutely mental.

Can see how it'll pan out now, Sao will cop a lengthy ban early doors, we'll suffer from it, the RFL then change the rules a couple of months in so that the points only apply from the 2025 season

| If 2024 points do carry forward on a rolling 12 month basis, then early doors, Ligi, Ese Ese and Ashworth need to be careful.
Ligi amassed points throughout last season. Fash picked up two sin bins in the 2nd half of the season.

Have to say this is a really poor idea/decision, as players from last season are effectively going to be punished twice for offences committed last season.
Bringing in a totally new system should mean that everyone (other than any player serving a current ban) starts with a clean slate.
As you say Steve0 I'm also starting to lose faith in the sport due to the RFL and their inability to run the sport successfully insteado of being gold medal standard for making an absolute hash of even the most simple of tasks.

| The game is run by idiots. Who changes things and then retrospectively applies the rules? Presumably any player coming in from overseas will also have their points from the NRL taken into account?

Probably not haven't heard Rovers complaining about JWH.

| What’s the score with Ligi now? Both the Dan and Rugby league live articles had him at 23 points but RLL have now amended it to 10 but the HDM still have it at 23? Hopefully RLL have had details clarified and amended the article.

| What an absolute joke. As others have said it effectively punishes players twice.
Hardly surprising given the clown show that is RL administration.

| I think legally, they cannot invoke a punishment twice. When the players have disciplinary hearings, they can take legal representation - I think Sao would be within his rights to do so with this. It is insane to use last seasons, already served bans, for a new system
