Leigh Centurions Lift 1895 Cup
The AB Sundecks 1895 Final between Featherstone Rovers and Leigh Centurions was so much more than a curtain raiser for the Betfred Challenge Cup Final which would take place later in the afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it was a battle between the top two sides in the Championship and the result would reverberate much further than this one sunny Saturday afternoon out in the big smoke.
It was a battle of two experienced coaches with neither Adrian Lam nor Brian McDermott strangers to major finals, McDermott with the upper hand and a record of six major finals wins as a player, and seven as a coach.
This was the first time in its three-year history that Leigh have made it to the final, but they were facing a Featherstone side who were defending the Trophy which they picked up last season thanks to their 41-34 win over the York City Knights.

He hasn’t the skill set to turn that around. This is his final job
Where as Lams building a formidable team at Leigh

Yes, early February. Leigh's recruitment since then with the additions of the likes of Krisnan Inu, Blake Ferguson & Edwin Ipape makes them a whole different proposition from what they were on that particular Monday evening. |

McDermott walked this league with Toronto when money was no issue. Leigh are spending big this season - more than Fev - and will probably end up being promoted to SL.
This has nothing to do with the skill set of the coaches and everything to do with player budget. Swap the coaches around and the result would be exactly the same. |

I think you already know the answer but just for the heck of it, it was Round 2 on a quagmire of a pitch not fit for livestock. Both Leigh & Fev have recruited well since then & I believe Leigh have done much better on that front.
On a side note, did anyone notice Fatty Leilua playing or was he doing a shift down the Chippy in Ponte (being that McMoanalot & Fev fans keeps claiming they are "part time"icon_wink.gif could be he was just lost deep inside a Leigh pocket ! |
