| Shocked by his omission from the Man of Steel shortlist so I've started this thread.
Peacock, for me, is the oustanding player of his generation (GB wise) and the best player ever to play for Leeds.
Agree or disagree?

| As an overall player, Hanley was better.
As a contributor to Leeds, I'd say Peacock is certainly up there.

| How the hell isn't he on the Man of Steel list?
I've not looked, but please don't tell me Tom Briscoe is? Phil Clarke came out with another outlandish statement the other week claiming he should be a contender, jesus wept.

| Peacock (and Sinfield) have been our two greatest players.
However the three guys nominated have had better 2015 seasons. Simple really, it's a season award not a career award.

| There's no doubt Peacock has been a great player and has contributed massively to the Leeds club. That's not a reason for him to make the MOS shortlist for this year as that is solely based on this years performance and not a place for sentiment because a player is retiring. If it was the shortlist would be Peacock, Morley and Wellens. The players have voted for the shortlist and he wasn't in their top 3 and rightly so IMO.
He will no doubt be considered for The Hall of Fame in 5 years time

| I think JP had a bit of a short quiet period towards mid season, Cuthbertson and Hardaker have been massive for Leeds this year, Walmsley similar for Saints. Peacock always gives 100% but a bit less dominant in 2015.

| Peacock could, perhaps should, have won it in one or other of the last couple of seasons. He was carrying Leeds' pack to massive degree then. This season he has been a little less dominant - partly by design as Leeds have improved the pack but perhaps also a very slight tapering off towards the end (which still leaves him well above the average prop).
Is he the greatest ever Leeds player? I imagine Holmes, Jones, Peacock and Sinfield would be four of most/many people's top five, but it's very hard to say which was the no. 1.
Undoubtedly there are Grand Finals Leeds wouldn't have won, wouldn't even have been in without Peacock but the same applies to Sinfield. Of these two Sinfield for me perhaps edges it, partly because of being a one club player; partly because he is, just about, a tangible link with the Bad Leeds era as well as 2003 etc so his triumphs carry association with more traumas than Peacock's; and also partly because Sinfield runs the show, and set and continues to set a lead throughout the football dept of the club.

| No, plenty of more influential players including Sinfield in this decade. Great player though and if GB had 13 players of his caliber we would have won something by now.

| I'm sure him and Sinfield will pick something up at the awards thing anyway.
Maybe Sinfield will win 'Best Referee 1997-2015'

| If you're measuring players on the basis of who has made the most out of their natural ability, then Peacock would be right up there with one of the best to ever play the game IMO.
Unlike a lot of players he wasn't blessed with a host of natural physical gifts, everything he has made himself into as a player has come about through hard work and sheer bloody-mindedness. If you were holding up a current player as an example to kids starting out on a professional career I'm struggling to think of many better examples.
Best player ever to play for Leeds (in the 40 years I've been watching anyway)? No. Hanley and Holmes would share that accolade.
Most influential in terms of helping to transform the culture of the club? Definitely.

| I agree Andy. Hanley and Holmes.
I'd add Sinfield to that making the most of category and would be above Peacock in the "most influential" group.
I think I'd throw Arthur Clues and Lewis Jones in there too.
And in the chasing pack I'd have Hall and Lauitiiti from the modern game

You say that, but he's 6'5, and 17st plus. Also, in his Bradford days he was a very mobile back rower with a superb right foot step.
Sure, hard work and dedication is what has made him into the player he is, but the raw materials were always there.

| Sinfield, Lewis Jones, Peacock, and John Holmes are probably the most influential players Leeds have had. Sure, there's been some more "naturally gifted" players, but the success the teams these players played in wouldn't have happened without the ability, and leadership.

Agree with all those names. imo you have to throw Schofield's name in there too. Gave us his best years during which time he won the Golden Boot.Would have won a few trophies too were it not for the awesome Wigan team of the time who were on an other level.

Maybe so, but if you run into him off the field he's not the sort of behemoth that you would expect a rugby league front rower to be. He can carry that sort of weight because of his height, without looking like he spends two or three hours every day in the gym. It's his mental strength and appetite for the game that keeps him throwing himself into collisions as many times as he has over his career, where many with similar physical gifts would have already packed up.

| Iestyn Harris has to be up there: not only for being the supremely skilful main man in a Leeds side that re-established themselves as contenders after 20 fallow years, but also for his role in setting in motion the events that allowed Bradford to lose Jamie Peacock to us...
Peacock and Sinfield are the two most important Leeds players of my 35 years watching the game. Hanley was a better player and the best all-round RL player I've ever seen but in terms of service and importance to the club Sinfield and Peacock are well ahead of him.

I'd go for Sinfield too. That's not disrespecting Peacock, he's been immense for us, and I'm sure we wouldn't have won as much as we have without him.
But Sinfield is the man the team and, crucially, the mentality at Leeds was built around. Obviously with very important additions such as Peacock, McGuire, Burrow & JJB (who often gets overlooked) but Sinfield is/was the main man in my opinion.

In the run up to the cup final there was that story in the paper about the sad passing of his father and how he played against Wigan, whilst he was on his deathbed (winning MOM) and then heading back to spend the last hours with him.
In that story it encapsulates the mental strength and sheer bloody mindedness that has made him a definite great of the SL era.
