| Thought it would be in melt down on here tonight?
Local bbc news was reporting at 6-45 that the new salford owner as targetted sam tomkins as his main target this season as a money no object target
Now the question is does he know about the salary cap and when explained to him he cannot afford him under the salary cap will he walk away from salford
Very interesting times with several other top players at clubs being earmarked for transfer bids from the salford money bags

| Mr k will be fully aware of the SL salary cap , he would no doubt be aware that this ' bid ' would not be successful , it will however set the benchmark of what he intends to do , and a willingness to fund it , players agents on both sides of the planet will be rubbing their hands in anticipation
If he is willing to pay transfer fees , he will be able to assemble a competitive squad fairly quickly , but he will have to do it the ' Blackburn/Man City way , ie start with ' B ' grade , gain some success before splashing the real cash on true A grade stars
Good luck to him

| Saw it this morning and got to admit I thought there might be an element of humour in this from Koukash, that he knew he'd never get Tomkins but is sending a signal to the RL world. But having spoken with someone at Salford tonight I'm assured it was in all seriousness and he's fully prepared to splash the cash, and will be making serious waves.
As others have said, everyone has their price and Koukash is willing to pay it.
However, while Lenegan has always wanted Wigan to be self-sufficient, he's got a pretty sizeable fortune (£200M??) in the bank so isn't likely to be awed by pound signs and no matter what the transfer fee Tomkins can only be paid so much thanks to the SC. Tomkins is going nowhere.

| I think its just Mr K,s way of getting some publicity to the club, with attendances down he needs to get the fans back to Salford. So by offering to buy all the best players knowing he can't might convince fans that he has the right intentions for the club. To actually succeed in getting the right players to the club is another matter.

| Think most people are spot-on with this one. Tomkins wont be going anywhere except Union at the end of his contract. It's a savvy piece of media on the Dr's part. Keeps Salford in the news and alerts greedy agents to the prospect of a payday. He'll get what he wants eventually, not with Tomkins, but once he's got a couple of big names in it will open doors to other, better quality players wanting to come.

How do you work that out, how do you know Union or the NRL would or even could offer more than Salford at this moment. Whether he goes to Salford is one matter but it won't necessarily be because Salford were outbid. Don't be so silly.

| I'm sure he knows about the salary cap. Even if he didn't (which would be bizarre), if he's got a ton of money to spend and wants to, he's more likely to lobby for a change in the rules before walking away. That would be a dream scenario - I've always thought that the simple cap blocks money out of the game. We may have a guy here ( I don't know, how rich is he exactly?) who could even bring some big name signings from RU - the best way by a country mile to start making PR inroads in the UK. Hard squad limits (no more than 13 players on 'star' wages, but no limit other than overall affordability in relation to that club's finances as to what those wages are) would work just fine, whilst allowing rich ambitious owners to drive the game forward. Bring it on!

As the current salary cap stands, whilst Salford might not be outbid in terms of transfer fee, they couldn't compete with the Union wage offer ( not without having virtually no other decent players anyway ).

I guarantee that a man that has spent millions acquiring a club over many months of negotiating will know more about the salary cap than you ever will.
What a stupid question.

| Don't be fooled by stupid Chairmen. Four clubs ruined recently due to their wonderful "experience and understanding" of the game. Mind you I get the impression that Koukash has more between his ears than porridge.

I'm sure Ed Farish (Former finance director for Australia NRL, and CFO of Gold Coast Titans), Graham Lowe (Prolific club coach both in UK and Australia, SOO coach and club administrator) and Andrew Chalmers (Former Chairman of NZ Rugby League) will have a fair idea of how the salary cap works.
The Doctor knows exactly what he is doing.

| I'd be happy to see 1 marquee player salary outside the cap for NRL or RU signed players. Clubs can decide if they can afford to use it. Alongside it would be a development "tax" of X pounds that would be paid to the RFL to invest in Jnr development in that clubs region if the marquee allowance was used. This way rich clubs can attract another star name, not weaken existing clubs and the jnr game gets some money to develop.

| I see this differently to the majority opinion on here: I think he looks a bit of a mug for going after Tomkins.
The Venkys looked stupid for going after Beckham/Ronaldinho etc, so why does Dr Koukash look like he's setting a marker? I don't get the difference.

Koukash clearly has a big interest in the club - look at him on the sidelines on Saturday night. Of course, time will tell whether he sees it through, but for now I think the optimism is justified. The Venky's show zero interest in the Blackburn club, making no contact with the fans and being generally useless.

If we are talking soccer then most folk would have thought Garforth Town mad for trying to sign ex-Brazilian internationals and yet Socrates was their player-coach for one month and Careca also played for them.
Salford's ambition is to be applauded even if the chance of it coming off is less than 1%.

Garforth Town are an absolute joke. Their owner (Mr. Clifford) claimed that he would take them into the Football League (in fact it might have been the premiership) within 25 years. He's probably already used 10 years of that and at present his club sit at the bottom of the Evo Stick Northern League (Northern Section) with a points total of 13 from 30 games and goal difference of minus 83.
In this context the new owner of Salford cannot fail, as he cannot be worse than this clown.

| If I was a chairman with a club with financial issues, I'd be filling my boots to get a transfer for my best players to Salford. I agree with STARBUG, they'll after to get grade B type players before grade A players are attracted.

Clown?
I take it Garforth Town were once a mighty side feared by all and have been relegated multiple times to where they now are then?
