Under the current play off system, they cant. The top two should get a shot at the GF in their first play off games.

Another way is IF they expand the WCC then the league leaders should qualify along with the GF winners IMO.

Award the prize money currently given for winning the GF to the winners of the LLS.

Clubs compete like hell for the financial rewards of finishing high up the table and then the prestige of being labelled "the best team" by winning the GF.

The League Leaders Shield is an irrelevance just like the SL regular season. However, there are plenty of mugs in rugby league as evidenced by the number of season ticket holders.

No problem, we'll just have 2 cup competitions and scrap the weekly rounds

That would be my preference. But definitely no expansion beyond a 4 team format.

Might as well scrap the regular rounds in their current format... they have been rendered meaningless. Saints got hammered at home earlier this evening and that ought to matter, yet it matters not a jot in the grand scheme of things. The SL season doesn't kick off until mid-September.

Last years minor premiers in the NRL lost 4 of their first 8 games. It seems earlier season 'not mattering' is something prevalent throughout the RL world

I'd like to see a better trophy for a start. That hubcap is an embarrassment.
A huge shield, perhaps the size of the FA Community Shield, would be good.

There's nothing wrong with emphasising this as an achievement. It is a big achievement and should be celebrated as such. As long as the GF is emphasised as being the big one, there is no problem.

I,m thinking of scrapping my season ticket next time and just watch it live from around September onwards.

It's the WHOLE of the regular season in SL which has been rendered irrelevant.

Please try and keep up.

That would be a good move on your part.

At least that way, you'd be breaking the mould by actually attending games which really count in SL.

The vast majority of SL fans attend only those games (regular season) which don't count.

If the entire season is irrelevant, how do you qualify for the play-offs?

Presumably you have the same view of football fans who attend Champions League group matches or World Cup qualifiers? Or RU fans who attend Heineken Cup pool rounds?

But it's not as important as winning the cup or being champions. So why would the RFL want to make it so?

No bigger mug than someone who continually forces the same issues with no positive balance, moaning endlessly about a product they get no pleasure from...now that is a waste of time.

For top teams like Leeds, Wigan, Saints and Warrington - by just turning up each round and tossing it off against mainly whipping boy SL rabble and collecting enough easily available points along the way, thus rendering their qualification for the play-offs a mere formality or a chore as opposed to a well-earned achievement in itself. The entire regular SL season shall continue to remain an irrelevance as long as the play-off structure is hell bent on rewarding mediocrity by offering way too many play-off places than there are genuine SL contenders.

For the rest of the whipping boy SL rabble teams - the regular season possesses more relevance because qualification for the play-offs is more of an achievement for them and an end in itself rather than a formality, but so what? These teams are also an irrelevance just like the regular season... they currently aren't genuine SL contenders... they are just making up the SL numbers.

The regular season and associated hubcap are irrelevant bedfellows who deserve one another.

Increasing the importance of the LLS would, I expect, lead to more intense competition throughout the season as teams would attach more value to finishing as high as possible up the table, which would be a good thing, don't you think?

Am I correct in recalling that you'll be attending various World Cup games? Presumably some featuring international whipping boy rabble? How do you reconcile this apparent interest with your view of the regular season games?
