| Because the London Broncos has never won any silverware, many people tend to forget the playing talent that has appeared for the London Broncos over the years of its existence. In fact some of the most exciting attacking players ever to play in Super League have worn the London Broncos jersey. I thinking in particular of Mark McLinden, Martin Offiah, Richie Barnett, Henry Paul and Denis Moran. And the emergence last year of young Kieran Dixon suggests that there is more of this to come. In formulating a list of the 17 best players to have played for London over the years of its existence, one has to omit great talent like Luke Dorn, who is surely one of the most exciting attacking players in Super League today, the impressive Thomas Leuluai, and the tireless workhorse Julien Rinaldi. And the amazing full back Richie Barnett has to be played at his second choice position of centre in order to allow the indispensable McLinden to play at full back.
Here below is my selection of the London Broncos Greatest 17 Super League players:
Mark McLinden,
Martin Offiah, Rob Purdham, Richie Barnett, Michael Robertson,
Denis Moran,
Craig Gower
Jim Dymock,
Lee Hopkins, Steele Retchless,
Antonio Kaufusi, Jason Hetherington, Solomon Haumono
Interchange: Henry Paul, Feleti Mateo, Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Mark Tookey.
What an array of talent there has been!

Scott Hill is a difficult one.
Who would you have him replace? SL leading try scorer, "Mr Intercept" Denis Moran? Or Jim Dymock? The latter would be the only possibility, unless you wanted to drop Tackling Machine and No 1 tackler in SL for one year, Steele Retchless, and move Dymock to 2nd row. Or drop the other 2nd row, Lee Hopkins, who was one of the best attacking 2nd rowers in SL, and again put Dymock in 2nd row?
Hard decision there.
Peter Gill would replace who?
I thought about Terry Matterson, but decided the three backrowers I picked were better than him.

Not true of Mark McLinden, Martin Offiah, Rob Purdham, Michael Robertson, Denis Moran, Antonio Kaufusi, Solomon Haumono, Louis M-S,
And though Richie Barnett was just past his prime, he was still an awesome player. I sawe some unforgettable tries by him from full back, esp against Alfie Langer's Warrington in 2001, with magical sidesteps around Lee Briers and 3 others, also against St Helens. The guy was still top drawer when a year or two past his prime.
The only ones whom that could have been said of were Jim Dymock, Henry Paul and Craig Gower, yet they were and are still classy when past their prime. Surely Gower is now one of top 2 Scrum halves in SL today, along with Scott Dureau. As with Henry Paul, several years in rugby union preserved Gower for his final years in rugby league at a riper age than most halves could still play.

I did consider them. But I would want Denis Moran and Craig Gower ahead of them any day of the week.

Offiah hardly played in the 3 or 4 years he was there. I'm pretty sure he was 30 when he signed for them as well, no question he was past it.
I'm surprised nobody has picked Villa the Gorrilla in their team.

I'd say terrible is being a bit harsh but he wasn't great, not worthy of a mention in this thread certainly.

Terrible compared to what? We'd shifted (is that shafted) Little Dennis off to Wigwam and TL did better for us than the little master Moran managed at Wigan

Aye. Peter Gill, Grant Young and Terry Matterson would be in for me. I always liked Steele Retchless. I thought he was an outstanding forward.

| Me strong was outstanding for, seemed to lose something when he went to Wigam.
There was another prop, was he called Russell Bawden? He went back to aus and played SOO following rumours he'd had a dust up with Tony Currie.
"Me Strong"!? - Damn iPad, should've read Mestrov.

Rusty played 58 times for us at Griffin Park in the Super Leaguebetween 2002 and 2004.....his second stint with us after 96/97 at which point he went to Melbourne and won a GF and played SoO.
Always approachable and very fond of post match beers IITC, he moved to France toplay in their elite comp from 2005 after an injury plagued 2004.
