| The following formula posted on the Leeds website to find out the most successful player in SL, do people agree with how it is weighted.
GF = 10pts
CC = 8pts
Golden Boot = 7pts
MoS = 6pts
WCC = 5pts
LL = 5pts
Lance Todd = 4pts
Harry Sunderland = 4pts
Dream Team = 2pts
International caps = 1 pt per appearance
The top 5 players based on this are (if my stats are correct):
Jamie Peacock 175 pts with 7GF, 2CC, 3WCC, 7DT, 4LL, 1MOS, 34IC
Kieron Cunningham 171 pts with 4GF, 7CC, 2WCC, 6DT, 6LL, 23IC
Paul Wellens 163 pts with 4GF, 5CC, 5LL, 2WCC, 1MOS, 3LT, 3DT, 1HS, 22IC
Leon Pryce 158pys with 4GF, 6CC, 3WCC, 6LL, 3WCC, 1HS, 1LT, 1DT, 23IC
Sean Long 156 pts with 4GF, 5CC, 5LL, 2WCC, 2DT, 1MOS, 3LT, 21IC
Obviously the most successful player is not necessarily the best so who do people think is the best player to play in Super League based only on SL appearances (minimum of 2 years in SL to qualify)? Personally I think the best player ever to play in SL is Jamie Peacock due to his continued success throughout his career, his leadership and imo his will to win is greater than any other player. He just edges KC because I think the best ever player in SL has to have won the MoS at least once which KC maybe unjustly hasnt done. There is also an arguments for Andy Farrell as he has won the Golden Boot which no other SL has and Paul Sculthorpe the only player to win MoS as a back and a forward!!

| The best player to ever play in SL is Andrew Johns.
A case for the best SL player could be made for Farrell, Scully, Cunningham, Long, Senior and Peacock.

| Iestyn Harris. 98- 99- 2000. before union. should have been up there with the all time greats if he had stayed in league.
Kevin Sinfield. people won't appreciate him out side Leeds until well after he has retired.

just reading it on the leeds board shows how much it was fabricated to be baised towards leeds players. in my opinion even if it was very brief andrew johns and trent barrett are far better talent wise than any leeds halfback. if anything it just shows how poor superleague has been that 4 teams have dominated it. if some one asks whos going to win nrl its almost impossible to perdict.

Wow - And yet, of the top 4, 3 were St Helen's.
I think if we'd have wanted to 'fabricate' it we'd simply double the points for GF wins. That would obviously excel most of our players ahead of Saints!

more to the point on your board leeds fans where trying to find away to say ryan bailey has been the best prop in superleague so stop trying to be snide and grow up. If anything it just shows that your team hasn't had the best individual players in superleague more to the fact you have done well against st helens.

How dare you mock TGPFISL when he owns 5 GF winners rings? The fact that his career performances haven't warranted a full international appearance since being busted for taking ephedrine in 2004 remains coincidental at best, and at worst serves as a benchmark to others lacking in ambition and improvement.

Jamie Lyon is not the best centre to have played SL for St Helens.
Regarding the points, there's no award for MoM in the WCC?
(Whilst I don't think he was the best SL player) Chris Joynt had a run when he won the Harry Sunderland, then the next game he was MoM against Brisbane in a WCC victory and then got MoM when we beat Wigan in the CC, which was our next proper game. What a run of form that was.

| There appears to be alot of people complaining about the formula used and the interpretation of best player.
I think Bovrick has mis read the formula, MoM in GF is worth 3pts less than being named best player in the world. The Dream Team refers to SL dream team not a world 13.
Andrew Johns although a brilliant player cannot be classed as the best SL player as he only played 3 games, I would suggest the minimum criteria is 2years. It is purely based on your performances in SL which is why I dont consider Morley as he played his best stuff in the NRL.
Pemps has not proved my formula wrong, the formula is to decide the most succesful player in SL not the best.
You get more points for Winning the GF than being MoS because it is the pinnacle of the British Game. If it was solely based on individual medals then Cunningham wouldnt even be in the top 10 because he has never won a MoS, Lance Todd or Harry Sunderland. Even though he has made 6DT.
The Ryan Bailey reference on the Leeds board was purely tongue and cheek but he has won more GFs at prop than any other player and only JP has won more GF rings.
I didnt come up with the formula however I do think it does reflect the what is most important and what is hardest to win.
If anybody would like to come up with another formula which they think is weighted better please feel free. It can easily be manipulated to suit players of different clubs but I think this is a fair assessment.

Maybe, but the question was the best player, not who has played the best in Super League.
Andrew Johns is a legend of the game, his skills are unquestionable and his career stands for itself. That he didn't play several seasons or several great games for Wire doesn't detract from him being probably the best player to ever play in SL.
As a Wigan fan I would have Barrett up there. When he was on fire he was unstoppable.
Obviously you have Scully, Farrell, Cunningham, Long, Robinson, Jones, etc who were great players and great servants of the game, but none of them were as good as Johns, who competes with Wally Lewis, Hanley, etc as some of the greatest in the history of RL.
[i**forget most of that, he's gone and amended the criteria**[/i

I have altered the question to avoid confusion! It is only based SL performances and there is a 2year minimum playing time to qualify. Andrew Johns was awesome but a couple of performances doesnt make you the best ever in SL.
Leeds maybe not have had the best individuals to play in SL but its a team game so that doesnt really matter, but what the results do highlight is Saints dominance in the CC in the SL era. Up until 2007 no non saints player would have got close to the top 3 but subsequently JP has won 4 GF a WCC and a LL.
Nobody was seriously suggested Bailey was the best prop in SL just that he has won more GFs as a prop than any other. Fielden is the most successful prop in SL history with 4GF, 2CC, 4LL, 3WCC and 2 DT giving him 95pts. Bailey has 70pts with 5GF, 2LL and 2WCC.

| What about players who didnt play for the best teams. The scoring criteria doesnt help them.
Gardener at Saints is probably one of the best wingers ever if you use scoring criteria but when you have played in a great team with brilliant centres inside you you will look good.

| Why are people suggesting Andrew Johns? Are you suffering from pedantry overload because the last time I looked Johns didn't inspire any Super League teams to any trophies during this time here. Saying he's the greatest player to ever play in Super League would be like saying because Peter Falk appears in [iThe Player[/i he's the best actor in it.

He played in Super League didnt he? The question was the best player to play in Super League not the most successful.
Andrew Johns far exceeds the ability and quality of any other player i have seen in Super League.

No Gardner is not one of the best wingers ever, the scoring chart determines the most successful player not the best player.
The best player is a matter of opinion the most successful can be at least narrowed down to a select few using a scoring system.
How many quality players played for poor teams? I cant think of many players that could be considered the best in SL who have not won any trophies (ignoring the Andrew Johns fiasco)

| Just noticed the new "criteria".
If it was just players who had played in SL for 2yrs+ i would say Morley for how i went on at the Roosters. But based on SL performances alone, it has to be Kieron Cunningham.
