| Considering both teams' points difference in the 4N's table are the same, does anyone know what will happen if England draw with NZ after 80 minutes?
Will England go through to the final having scored more tries and points than NZ?
Presumably, because its part of the round-robin, the match won't go to extra time.

| Apprently NZ are above England due to having a superior points percentage (read that somewhere, don't know what it means, or how it's measured), but presumably in the event of a draw they would still have the same advantage and so would go through.

| It says in the League Express that NZ have a greater points average but I don't understand that.
Eng 42 and 20
NZ 36 and 12

With the term 'percent' being banded around, perhaps it is due to the fact NZ have scored 3 times as many points as they have conceeded (or 300%) whereas England have scored 2.1 times as many points as they've conceeded (210%).

| You'd have thought it would have gone on points scored alone. Oh well, we'll win anyway.

| It's 18/1 the draw on Skybet and you can probably get better odds elsewhere, must be worth a wager. If it comes down to this and NZ quailfy it will cost the RL a lot of money, and some sh-t will be flying around as points average now isn't the standard basis in different sports (points average means that a 4-2 win is better than a 26-24 one, which is contra to the ethos of RL).

| In other words, the team with the fewest points conceded goes through...... but no, let's confuse people by calling it "points percentage"!

| When was it that we drew a test series with NZ and we controversially won the trophy? Around 2003 I think.

I went to that game, at Huddersfield. Paul Anderson had an absolute stormer off the bench.

Nothing controversial about it. It was ours before the series so NZ had to win the series

| So, we scored more against Wales and put in a better performance against Australia, and we could get penalised?

| I'd seen on Sky that they'd got England as 3rd and Angela Powers mentioned something about a points average or points percentage, but then the 4 nations website has England as 2nd. And I can't find any mention of the rules in this case on the 4 nations or RLIF website. It seems a strange system for NZ to be second to be honest. I don't see what's wrong with points difference, then points for.

| It was the BBC site that mentioned points percentage aswell. Does seem to be some confusion about the placing of nz/gb as it stands.

No it wasn't ours before the 2002 as the trophy had only just come into existence prior to that Test series. NZ won the 1st Test 30-16, the 2nd Test was drawn 14-14. The RFL then begged the NZRL to agree to the winner of the 3rd Test being deemed winners of the inaugural Baskerville Shield because they were concerned about the attendance for a Test that might be perceived as having no meaning if the Series could only be drawn by GB as a best case scenario. The NZRL agreed to this and GB won the 3rd Test 16-10.
GB therefore controversially won the inaugural Baskerville Shield on the back of a drawn series, despite losing the series on overall points difference by a scoreline of 46-54.

| It comes down to points scored divided by points conceded apparently. If it's a draw, New Zealand will advance.

No controversy. NZ readily agreed to the winner takes all 3rd test as a dead rubber would have hit the crowd (22,247) and therefore their tour profit. GB battered NZ in that match and 16-10 flattered the Kiwis.

Was that the same year Graham Mackay kicked a drop goal from about 50 metres away when Hull played NZ? It was almost as good as Lydon's IIRC.
