| Consider it from the view of the players- especially State of Origin and International players. As if their season isn't demanding enough with all fixtures in regular season, plus cup games, plus SoO, plus 4 Nations... and now the idea of adding in more games coupled with the idea that clubs will have less money anyway which could affect wages and squad depth/development which is ideally what the said players would want to give them a break at some point in the season?

You would think more potential employers would be a positive for players.
According to the report only 4 out of 10 are against the idea of expansion though.

Why would it mean more games ? , with a play off system there is no real requirement for everybody to play everybody twice
Or they could always bring in a conference system , or even two leagues with promotion and relegation

Good point, could provide longer careers in NRL for Aussie/NZ players and have less of them coming to super league aged 30 and cashing in, and [icould[/i then help UK players to develop as gaining more experience in SL.
Do you think the 40% were mainly the SofO and internationals i mentoned though for the reasons stated?

| It wouldnt mean more games for players as the teams dont play every other team home and away as it is. There is currently 16 teams, and I think each team plays 24 matches and has 2 byes.

nrl teams dont play every other team home and away, so adding new teams wont change anything in regards to the number of games

It's a double edged sword in my opinion.
It [icould[/i help stop 30 year old Aussies coming to Superleague (although I think the exchange rate will do a better job of that anyway) but it might open the door for the best British talent to try their luck in the NRL if there are more jobs available.

Almost certainly.
With Ellis and The 15 Burgess boys out there, if they continue to go well and there's 2 more club squads to fill up, it's only natural that they'll look over here more.
That said, still hope the Bears get in.

That in itself is another double edged sword...
Do we want our best players going to the NRL? From an international perspective, of course we do, we're the only one of the 'Big 3' who has failed to win a Tri/Four Nations or World Cup.
On the other hand, do we want a Super League where the cream is missing- obviously it will still be a good standard but what would SL be like missing the likes of Roby, Tomkins, Myler to mention 3 of many who may be approached by NRL clubs.

Without the better players Superleague will become the same standard as the championship.
St Helens will become the new Leigh, Wigan will be the new Halifax and Warrington will be the new Featherstone.
A frightening thought.

Quite. For SL to continue in the way it's improved, the players are quintessential to that.
The thought of Roby, Tomkins et al going to NRL is horrifying for British RL.
