| This is a bit of a radical expansion idea and the flatcappers wont like it but potentially i think it could work. The idea came from the success the Scorpions have had with their nearly all Welsh team off the back of Crusaders leaving south Wales.
The RFL should run a super league team, this team would have no permanent base, they could be called Super League Globetrotters, each licenseing period (every three years) they move location to a new city such Dublin, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh Birmingham Newcastle to establish rugby league there. They would have an army of develpment officers to help start up new amateur clubs and get all the local schools playing RL. When the Globetrotters move on a championship 1 club can take there place and try and legitimatly work there way up the leagues with the local RL players that the city is now producing and local supporters the globetrotters have converted to RL. This is what is happening in south Wales, although Crusaders were only in super league one year and finished bottom. Imagine what the RL footprint the Globetrotters would leave on a city.

| Why not just have one round on-the-road, not a magic weekend, but clubs playing at a different venue. Like what the then Broncos had to do when they were without a home ground.

I'm a flatcapper and i love it. It's a smashing idea. Manchester's been done though - by Salford
Put London on your list too. And Plymouth.
PS: How much of a budget do we get?

i would take one game on the road every week to a different city.perhaps that way the RFL can gather information to see which area is more interested in RL.
at the same time i would take two or three of the bigger games in the season over to catalan and have a double headers with catalan v who ever in one of the bigger stadiums in the area.or even get TO involved.

id expect 7 grounds will cost a hell of a lot more to rent out than one.

| Who would want to play for this team? Given that nobody would get a chance to properly settle down what with moving every few years.

The problem with an on the road game it doesnt leave a big enough lasting impression on the area. People go to the event eg Scots at magic weekend and think that was a good weekend and possibly never go to an RL game again. With the Globetrotters in the same city for 3 years people will be used to going to watch rugby league week in week out.

People who are passionate about rugby league and want to help the game. Id like them to sign some real big eye catching names. Players like Ali Lauititi, Kyle Eastmond, Jarrod Hayne, Paul Sykes, Billy Slater. In areas where union is big, such as Bristol make a few RU signings to catch the headlines, Wilkinson would do nicely

I'm sure most players are passionate about their Rugby. But asking someone to move around the country when they could have a family nicely settled into an area just doesn't make much sense to me.

Players move clubs all the time and most contracts are less than 3 years so this wont be a problem, the next project city can be planned 3 years in advance so players know where they are going to be based. Just look at how many aussies kiwis tongans samoans fijians are playing rugby over here, its only flatcappers and the like who wouldnt dare dream of moving away from their home town.
Players love playing rugby league and everyone will want to be in the Globetrotters team with the exciting style of rugby league they play and the greater good their doing the game.

Just in case people weren't sure this was a wind up before, I give you Paul Sykes being quoted as a "real big eye catching name" in the same sentence as Billy Slater.

| He represented England in the world cup, this is the sort of player the Globetrotters want. Im being realistic here and know they cant have the whole team made up of Slater's and Inglis's

The Globetrotters aren't real, so they could want whatever you say they want.
Where's the money coming from by the way? Or have you imagined up Roman Abramovich as the owner as well?

| The team would be run by the RFL as stated in the OP. Funding would come from sky and gate money same as any other club. The RFL would top this up a little bit to be able to afford a few superstars the team needs. After the first three years when the Globetrotters leave and the championship 1 club comes in they would be self sufficient.
The money would gain a great return on investment, due to a whole new region starting to watch RL, resulting in higher viewing figures and a better TV deal next time round. Just think what it could do for the game in Ireland and Scotland. A few years after the Globetrotters have left these places, we could have a Euro Nations competition that rivals the Six Nations.

And there's the problem. Super league teams surrendering some of their money. Hardly fits in with the "I'm alright Jack" attitude prevailing in the game right now

Not necessarily true. The RFL must have a fair amount of excess cash from running events like the Grand Final Challenge Cup finals Magic Weekend the Four Nations ect. If the 2013 World cup turns a big profit, the Globetrotters could be started and run off that for three years. After which the increased sky money from the increased viewing figures because of the Globetrotters.
Big business's could be brought in to sponser the team name, this could secure big funding. The O2 Globetrotters, or Red Bull Globetrotters for example.

| But the 'Globetrotters' were just some Bball side that did exhibition type stuff to entertain the crowds werent they?
How would that work in a RL type of thing?
Maybe they could be known as the Uncle Joes Mintball Globetrotters, the Peters Pie Globetrotters or the Dandelion and Burdock globetrotters?
