Good to see Pat Richards turning out for Ireland tonight in the Euro Nations... nice that he wasn't Irish just to play in the World Cup like some other's over the years

Good on him and tbh it's no suprise.

The first thing he spoke of after his move to Wigan a few years back was that he wanted to get over to Ireland as much as possible to visit his family.

All his family including his mum and dad are Irish i believe so it obviously means alot to him to turn out for them.

Agreed and if more players were as committed to the sides they turned out for in the World Cup our International game would be a bit more stronger.

A bit like those two w888888 who were turned by Tony Smith

Pat is one of the most genuine Rugby players around.

He will go down as one of Wigans overseas legends if he sees out his career here.

Can we have a GB team again.

Pat would be a shoe in for either wing or fullback positions.

And if Blanch was fit he would take the other wing spot.

can we find him a grandparent or distant relative who was born in england and get him drafted in for next week.... we could do with a goal kicking full back who happens to be a quality player!

That is so true!

He is miles ahead of every other outside back in the team IMO. Hall is a great try scorer and is a good player but not as good as Richards IMO.

It makes me smile that Richards has never made a superleague dream team



Maybe it's a result of him shifting between fullback and wing but when you consider that Kevin Penny got in ahead of him it really does show the bias given towards homegrown players.

What about Fox in ahead this year?

Another example of the homegrown bias but he did have more of a case then when Penny got in on the back of 12 games.

On that basis Ainscough should have got in this season.

I can't see too many fans being happy with an Aussie turning out for GB! No matter how genuine or nice of a bloke our Pat is.

I remember when Michael Withers got selected for an Ashes series and then pulled out because everybody went apesh*t.

Unlike the Aussies we don't like picking foreign players for our national side

(bar Mary Fasavalau as pointed out to me....lol).

You conveniently forget that Tollet was born in England -- either Sussex or Surrey I think, can't quite remember which though.
