The game is turning into a laughing stock, and major founding clubs are being given a big middle finger.

In the long run people will lose interest in the game at both levels; championship supporters being disallusioned with no chance of exciting progress, and floating super league fans tired of the plastic playoff-only format

I remember, not that long ago, when 3000 or so, mostly from elsewhere, turned out at Thrum Hall to see Fax play Brisbane Bronco's.

Brisbane were THE team at the time.

Halifax people showed no interest then and don't now!

Expect the merger of the Championship and Championship 2 from next season, and the re-introduction of a single league system outside of SL.
The salary cap reduction is simply to ensure that the better players are shared around a bit more which would enable the smaller clubs to compete at a relatively respectable level in 2010 and give us a better standard of competition.
I did wonder why Leigh were so confidently signing on the likes of Ricky Bibey, Robbie Paul and Ian Millward during a serious relegation battle, and I think I have found the answer.

On response, we've got to be careful here, there are clubs in the Championship and dare I say Championship One with plenty of potential. We now risk losing good, young players because the cap won't let clubs afford to keep them.

Form some kind of British Premier or elite league, steal some of the big super league clubs and let super league be a european competition.

Or just leave the championship be, there have been some fantastic games on tv this year. The struggling championship clubs just need some help, as much help as would be put into any expansion club or plan.

With the highly competitive lower division and the traditionally also-ran SL teams starting to flex their competitive muscles, it seems that the RFL are doing a lot right to me.

you might think differently if you supported a championship club whos ambition it is to re-gain super league status!

I might do, I might not if it mean bankrupting the club and a collapse in ignominy.

The 2 nd and 3 rd tiers are indeed very competitive this year , but interest in them within their own towns is waning and will continue to do so as time goes on , in my opinion of course

The Championship clubs need local fans through the gates more than anything else , unfortunatley most clubs cannot afford the personel to achieve this , and that is where the RFL should be helping

So £1Million would be what you would want spent on the Championship? IIRC the current Sky deal nets SL clubs £1M each and I thought that Championship clubs are currently getting £100k, so that means the current deal gets the clubs in total £15M. The money you want means either 6% more from Sky or SL clubs to accept about the same amount less (what, about 60k each).

Ideally some money would be generated by televising Championship matches that would go towards this income. At the moment Sky show Championship matches for free. Where will this extra money come from?

You could possibly have it on a sliding scale?
Plus If you're having regional marketing teams then possibly one could cover the likes of Leigh, Widnes, Swinton, Oldham, Rochdale on a budget of 150,000 for the lot?

Would a marketing "hit squad" work?
Employed by the RFL, with 2 managers and 2 other staff, this team could liaise with the marketing person at each of the clubs below SL and offer advice, suggestions and resource to assist in the promotion of games and attendance.
This, coupled with a financial assistance package should do the trick!

I heard they are increasing the size of the championship and eventually it will be re-branded SL div 2
