| During the current franchised, 14 club, top 8 play-off system SL era... the total attendances in SL to date remain the lowest we have ever witnessed. Neither the replacement of the poorly-supported Crusaders with the better-supported Widnes or the establishment of 2 new stadia has prevented the 2013 SL attendances from being the worst on record so far.
[uSL Rounds 1 to 12 total attendances comparison (2009 to 2013)[/u

SL 2012 - 799,881 from the same 82 fixtures.

SL 2010 - 728,728 from the same 82 fixtures, apart from replace Widnes with Crusaders.
SL 2009 - 729,773 from the same 82 fixtures, apart from replace Widnes with Crusaders.

Easy to see why some clubs were reluctant to see the salary cap raised though.

| What about there being 2/3rds of the season to go?
What about the fact the game has people who call themselves ‘fans’ of the game that will spend more time collating lists of attendances than actually attending games?
If you have a problem with the attendances, the one and only useful and worthwhile thing you can do is go to a game and take a friend. Moaning about the first third of one season not being as good as the best season in over a hundred years of RL is as pointless an exercise as I can think of.
And it isn’t a 12.2% fall, that comparison is not between the games played this year and the games played up this point last year (not least because there hasn’t been the same amount of games played this year as this point last year). It is a 12.2% difference between the games played this year and those same fixtures played at different points throughout different years. The extrapolation requires an assumption that the attendances of fixtures are the same relative to each other. But that is obviously not the case and why that figure will almost certainly narrow before the end of the year.

Are you seriously suggesting they're mutually exclusive - just because you can't walk and chew gum at the same time?

Quite useful to know that attendances are down. In fact, it might even motivate people do exactly as you suggest.

Presumably fans are being asked to pay the full whack for season tickets and the like, probably for the first time in a number of seasons, and so that in itself will sort the men from the boys. Other than that, I would imagine it will take a couple of seasons to rebuild confidence in the club, as well as local profile.

Does "providing interesting information to readers" count as 'useful'? If not, then technically you are correct - 99% of the content of this forum is no 'use' to anyone.
If things were going really well, would it be equally useless to post (say) evidence of a 25% increase in attendances? Should miracles happen, and attendances ever rise in the near future, or RLWC ticket sales go well, or we find a sponsor, etc. please don't post about it. It would be useless.

| The comparison being used whether showing a 25% rise or fall wouldn’t be much use. If 25% more people had attended the first 11 rounds of the season it would be interesting to note it, but that would be about it. The only use for attendance statistics realistically is to view as part of a trend, in isolation they are pretty meaningless.
BTW, The RLWC has already sold 40k tickets for the final. Nearly 200 days before the tournament starts. The last World Cup, in Australia had an attendance of 50’599 in 2000 44'329. Considering your rabid interest in attendance statistics its telling you haven’t chosen to start a thread praising the outstanding achievement there.

| My guess is that attendances over the season as a whole will be down if only because of the strain that people are feeling in their wallets at present.
Whilst many will still want to see their team and will have budgeted the season ticket in, the away games are the first they'll cut down on.
Or maybe that's just me.

To figure out the level of impact this has you can just look at london or catalans away games. they never bring away fans, so any fall is all down to the home side. The fall in attendances at some clubs are far larger than the amount of away fans that some clubs bring!

The acievement wont be filling Old Trafford.....it will be filling wembley and the millenium together with all the other stadiums......RLWC 2013's last announcement on crowds pointed to about 15% of the available 500k tickets being sold...so 40k to the final and 35k spreadover potentially 425,000 available seats.
25k at Hull, 25k at Hudds and potentially 25k at Wigan (QF) will be where tha majority of these 35k have been sold........
...of course, since the RFL extended the deadline on cheap tickets there is no actual proof or announcements as to the real state of play with tickets....we can only assume.
SL attendanceson the other hand are factual ( to within 2% either way) and are down...

I'd like more detail on the ticket sales - they may well be good so far and despite the inevitable nonsense reply to come from Smokey, questioning whether I actually like RL, good ticket sales for the RLWC is A Good Thing.
The reason I'd like to see more detail is that if it's true, not only is it a good thing, it would be really useful to know what they're doing that's working so well. But that doesn't work unless the data is definitely solid.
For example, this may not be the case at all, but one question is whether they're counting sales to other distributors such as coach travel firms, etc.? (This is just shifting the ticket to another vendor, it's not a guaranteed bum-on-seat.) I genuinely don't know - are they?
