One of the finest television comedies ever produced. It's right up there with Dad's Army, Hancock's Half Hour, Monty Python's Flying Circus and anything else England can offer. I can visualise Joan "The Freak" Ferguson pulling on her leather gloves right now!
At the pub where I used to be head barman we used to have "Prisoner" parties after closing time, where the staff would watch it together while drinking cans of VB. I especially enjoyed watching out for actors and actresses whose character had been written out of the series turning up a couple of years later playing a completely different character. There's clearly only a very limited number of thespians in Australia and they have to "recycle" them.

Didn't see any fights as such, but did see a lot of aussies acting like idiots after the game around the stadium. although had we won i'm sure there'd of been England fans acting exactly the same.
There where a few aussies sat near me who where imo being really rude and arrogant before the match had even started.. but its sport... its what happens. and it was fun for atleast a short while when we took the lead and kept them quiet!

Starting?
While other nations of the globe
Behold us from afar,
We'll rise to high renown and shine
Like our glorious southern star;
From England, Scotia, Erin's Isle,
Who come our lot to share,
Let all combine with heart and hand
To advance Australia fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"
Shou'd foreign foe e'er sight our coast,
Or dare a foot to land,
We'll rouse to arms like sires of yore
To guard our native strand;
Brittannia then shall surely know,
Beyond wide ocean's roll,
Her sons in fair Australia's land
Still keep a British soul.
In joyful strains the let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"

I think you're a bit deluded, son. Australia is 95% arid dust bowl with some inhabitable areas around the edges, which are nothing more than spider infested snake pits. I can guarantee that the vast majority of English people do not wish to live there. I could ask myself a million times, where I’d rather live, and it would never be Australia. If I wanted to move somewhere hot, I'd go to Cyprus, which is truly beautiful. I wouldn't have to check my shoes every time I put them on, just in case something had crawled in whose bite would kill me or cause necrosis. I could relax in my garden without worrying that something wicked will sink its fangs in me while I’m having a nap. And, best of all, there are no Aussies.
Quote ="Jonesy"I do not care for many English people they seem arrogant, racist, obnoxious and have accents that make them sound somewhat thick.'"
I see what you've done there...

There you go. That's a win win if ever there was. Makes you wonder why anyone would actually chose to move to Australia.
Then again, some people like burnt or semi-cooked, botulism-ridden food from barbecues. Give me a French café or restaurant any day.

Makes you wonder why there are so many Aussies in London – and why, if a story I saw in the last couple of weeks was true, so many people who went to Oz are coming back.

There's never been a better time for expats to return. The exchange rate and the ridiculously overinflated house prices in Australia means a lot of people are leaving.
Australia is a very expensive place to live these days. I've gone from having $3000 a month mortgage to having a £0 a month mortgage

| Quote ="Mintball"First of all, intelligent, educated and literate people know that 'history' and 'culture' are not, in such a context, proper nouns and do not require capital letters.
But then again, they also know that 'there' and 'their' are not synonyms (big word - look it up in a dictionary).
Australia has an appalling record on racism, so don't try to play that card. It makes you look sillier than ever. And just what have Australia's contributions to history and culture been - apart from Rolf Harris, Dame Edna, [iNeighbours[/i, the inability to win or lose at sport with anything approaching grace, dignity and class, and the racist, religious fundamentalist that is Mel Gibson?
Any Shakespeare? A Chaucer, Dickens, Hardy, Austen, Keats, Byron, Shelley, Pinter, Golding, Brönte, Gaskell, Trollope, Defoe, Marlowe or Bennett? *
Your Elgar, Holst or Vaughan Williams?
Australia's Turner or Constable or Stubbs or Freud or Bacon or Blake?
And that you have to ask the question of what people "do" with culture is indicative simply of your own ignorance of the subject.
* I'll give you Peter Carey - he's not bad at all. But then you did foist Germaine Greer on us as an illustration of your intellectual might. And you've produced a couple of good actors - Hugo Weaving and Geffrey Rush - but you haven't overwhelmed the cultural world.'"

| Move to Australia? Not sure what the big fuss is about. Dux described Bondi beach to me as Scarborough with central heating.
I've done a fair bit of travelling, but my favourite place in the world is the lake district, I love exploring the fells.
My wife lived in Vancouver for two years with work before we were together and tells me how much I'd love it, but I'd never move so far away from my family, or from a more practical point, my business.
I remember reading a statistic that said a large % of brits that moved to Australia return, whereas people who go to the USA tend to stay.

It’s all true though, Chris.
You can’t even go for a nice, peaceful crap without worrying that some hateful creature will attack your nether regions and, before you know it, you are being dragged off the “[iDunny[/i[size=150*[/size” floor, part paralyzed and covered in your own , by paramedics who will no doubt laugh at your sorry predicament and insinuate that you are a “[iPommy poofter[/i[size=150*[/size” for not simply being able to wipe your and walk away.
That is why we sent our criminals there and why all, but the most stupid and desperate, would ever want to move there.
[size=150*[/size [i"Pommy poofter"[/i – (Troglodyte): for an Englishman who shows signs of being homosexual or girly in some way.
