| If you look close enough you can see his soul slowly fading. Yes the wages are higher, yes there's more commercial opportunities to be had, yes you will have greater exposure to the overall population but when your career is over Sam and the fickle 'general public' forget your name and the prestigious brands drop you for the next rising star, what kind of legacy will you leave behind?

| I honestly don't think Burgess is right. If you look at the photo below from his latest match, you'll see him tackling an opponent that he would have absolutely smashed last year. Like all players who haven't got or have lost their bottle, he is (possibly subconsciously) keeping his head out of contact. Poor lad. Not surprising if it has badly affected his game psycologically; face smashed and no end of metal plates and pins in it now. Can see him finishing his RU contract then having to retire early.

You do realise that Burgess has the ball in that picture and is being tackled, he is virtually past the man!

| All you have done is highlight the fact that SB is playing a club game in Ireland in front of 50,000 fans, something that he could never do in RL. And that you subscribe to BT just to watch Union

| Maybe I'm mistaken but I'm sure I saw Sam playing infront of 80k + for his last club game in RL ?
I also just seen a report of his latest game in Union playing infront of a massive crowd of 3,900 in the home of a conference level soccer team.
Quite easy to twist facts to suit your agenda isn't it

What was your main point?
All you have shown through this entire thread is that:
You are prepared to pay to watch a game you neither like or understand
That unsubscribing from BT sport seems to take an entire season
That Sam Burgess is finding the transition from one sport to another
that you need to get out more and stop cyber stalking sam burgess.......let go, he's gone to the dark side

Was that game in Ireland, which as you full well know was my point? Quite easy to ignore the main point to suit your agenda isn't it?

| Pity the RU world cup will interfere with media coverage of the climax of the Super 8s and Grand Final etc. But never mind. I see Sam Burgess will be making his debut for the England RU team on Saturday night. Well done to him after playing in only about 20 games of union. Thinking about it, with all his playing and training in Rugby League from a young age he'd probably hardly ever seen a game of union before playing it.
Although I'd like to see Sam back in Super League next year (or probably more realistically in 2017) I do hope the nature of the England RU games this year are such that Sam gets the opportunity to display his world class abilities as a rugby player. But this is union, so I'm not betting on it.

| Seems perverse to play him at centre anyway. Bath fans round here are none too pleased, he's surely more suited to 6 or 8.
Maybe Eastmond (surely a better centre than SB anyway) is a more realistic option for a return to SL, as he's once again been overlooked by England, presumably for being 'too small'.
How great would it be to reunite Sam T and Eastmond for England RL?

| Given Andy Farrell is the England backs coach, Eastmond's omission is hardly a surprise. They can't be having creative centres playing for England RU.

| Burgess has been training as a 'crash-ball' centre in the mould of Manu Tuilagi who is suspended from duty. It's a fair comparison - he can beat the gain-line and is strong defensively, but I'm not sure it's going to work against the very best at the World Cup.
He's had a superb debut season, not that anyone on here would have expected otherwise, but it's been spent mostly at 6 and I think that's where he should be considered. Too late for that now though and the spotlight will really be on him tomorrow where I expect he will be having a straight shoot-out with Slade for the last centre position - they are very different players but if England are looking for a strong carrier then he is undoubtedly the best option they have already. Joseph, Burrell and Barritt will probably all be picked before him but if named in the squad he should see some game time in the 'easier' pool games at the very least. Looking forward to see how he goes tomorrow.
Eastmond is pretty unlucky, on last seasons form I'd pick him over Burrell and he is infinitely better with the ball than Barritt who is in simply because of his defence. I can only assume that the coaching staff don't rate him highly enough defensively.

| Agreed. Joseph is one of the very few union players who I really rate in terms of ball skills, along with Mike Brown and Danny Care. All three would be good in league, I reckon.

You could fit 2 Tuilagi's in the mould that Sam Burgess came out of!

| I suppose by union standards, Manu Tuilagi is rated as a big hitter. Of course, he's not in the same league as a Sam Burgess or a Steve Matai or a JWH.

A RL fan is mocking England RU for 'only' getting a 60,000+ crowd for a friendly weeks before a busy and very expensive RWC? The RFU will make more money from this one friendly than RL did from its 2013 Heritage Cup (sponsored by Groupon).
