Wales v France v Lancaster v Yorkshire.
Three double-headers a year. England players get a rep chance, Wales and France get more matches. Eventually it could split into a merger with the European Cup and an Origin Series.

| Ditch the MM and have a Rugby League Festival.
Headline game England V's "Superleague other nationalities" *think of appropriate catchy name.
Team for instance ...
Roberts
Richards
Carmont
King
Hicks
Chase
Finch
Lima
Monas
Perry
Hoffman
Lauititi
Puletua....
France v Wales
Scotland v Ireland
Then have the 7's tournament. Would make for a good day out as far as i'm concerned.
Also maybe even England 2nd team ( England A ) v's Cumbria.

| lose the Lancashire and Yorkshire tag and have West v East Series.
Example you could get a decent West team mainly out of Wigan-St Helens-Warrington against a similar decent team out of Leeds-Huddersfield-Hull. you could even put up a minor game before the main event (West- Barrow, Leigh, Widnes against East - Halfax, Featherstone, Sheffield).
2 game series, one at DW stadium the other at Headingly.

But surely it work better if it was run in a 'place you were born in or a place you first played your footy' type way if you are going down the east v west route?
Wouldnt it be better to try and get a bit of good old fashioned parochial rivalry going?

I still cant understand why the old Lancs v Yorks thing never caught on.
2 of the biggest rivalries in UK sport... certainly at county level
Rugby League is most popular in these areas
17 players born in Lancs take on 17 players born in Yorks
Surely that would be better?

Yes, scrap an event that gets 40,000+ for two events that would struggle to get 10000 between them whilst re-enforcing the image of the game as a Yorkshire an Lancashire bun fight.
These events will never catch on while coaches are allowed to pull players out because they've broken a fingernail.

It just isn't though.
People in "Lancashire" see Liverpool vs Manchester as a big rivalry; on Merseyside, you'd be easily able to drum up some interest in a scousers vs woolybacks game. I've never heard anyone express a desire to beat Yorkshire at all costs, or any other expression of keenly felt rivalry.

| Its obvious England need a different test at this stage than Wales and France offer mid season.
Yorks V lancs doesnt work. There no point flogging this horse.
I think a 1 or two game series against an Other Nationalities side would be more than useful until the next world cup.
Then i would have 1 england v ON game and rotate England v France & England V wales on an annual basis as a second game.
The problem with other nationalities is the desire to play for the shirt.
Perhaps the way to work an other nationalities team is to make one of the SL"foreign players" captain for the whole year and have some sort of fundraising element to the concept throughout the year, with other events as well as the games against England.
Also the ON captain picks the squad and the coaching team for the games. Its his team and you get picked by him so don't let him down.
Potential candidates throw their hat into the ring each year & The captain is voted for each year by the eligible players in SL at the same time they cast their man of steel votes and the announcement is made at the end of season dinner.
I`d keep the Other Nationalities tag but they certainly need a brand nickname & keep the green shirts.

My idea as well unfortunately we'll never see it happen. The clubs will be just too selfish to drop League games (and income) or find excuses to not release players for such intense games.

Maybe its because most scousers now see themselves as coming from Merseyside rather than Lancashire?
Go to Manchester and ask the same question and you'll get a different answer.

It's a match-up with a bit more history in cricket, certainly - but also due to them being the only two county clubs in the north for best part of 100 years. With Cricket, the powerbase historically has been the mill towns which are a lot closer to Yorkshire.
You can get one-sided rivalries. In soccer, Leeds Utd fans tend to see Man Utd as their main rivals, but are pretty much off the radar for Man Utd fans - with 8 premier league clubs in Lancashire and none in Yorkshire, it's not surprising. Yorkshiremen tend to support other Yorkshire clubs if their own team is not involved, but someone from Liverpool would support pretty much any team in the world playing against Man City or Man Utd and expect to have the same treatment from Manchester fans when they play.
Devon v Cornwall is way more keenly felt than any other county rivalry.

I like the idea of the mid season window with the end of season internationals. Get some consistency going, whatever it is.I would like a more organised approach to rugby in both hemispheres.
In addition, to kick off the new season there could be an All Stars weekend, since they are starting to push that there:
NRL All Stars vs Indigenous All Stars
SL All Stars vs Great Britain
In which the SL Team is selected from an online vote, but the French captain and Vice Captain get automatically selected (providing they are in SL).
And then the mid season representitive games I would like to see as follows:
Queensland vs New South Wales
New Zealand vs Pacific Island XIII (Fiji/Tonga/Samoa/PNG/CI)
with either
Wales vs France
Scotland vs Ireland
England vs Other Nations
or
Wales vs France vs Lancashire/West vs Yorkshire/East

I can gurantee Leeds are more 'on the radar' than all of the Lancashire clubs but possibly one, to think that the Leeds/Man U rivalry is one way is very naive.
Also most of the Liverpool fans I know quite like Man City (your enemies enemy is your friend and all that).
