Crusaders vs Leeds 2010 was actually a Round 4 fixture brought forward to accommodate Leeds' participation in the WCC so technically not a Round 1 fixture.....tut tut William.

I thought what was under discussion was Sam Burgess's RU debut. As this has long since past can't mods just lock the thread. Please, please, please!!!

I suspected that SL match viewers would have gone down, but it is disappointing to see that its gone down that much. As I've said before, the quality of top level rugby league in Europe has gone down since 2006, mainly due to the Aussie dollar comparing better with the pound obviously.

But as far as comparing internationals is concerned, they bring out people who have no idea about rugby union, they're occasions, like people who have no interest in tennis and have never played it watch Wimbledon, and even go to Wimbledon, and Ascot in July, when they wouldn't know one end of a horse from the other.

And there's far too much "international" rugby union, as many involved in RU have said.

But I'm expecting SKY viewership of RL to go up over the next 2 years.

I see the England RU coach is as good as saying Sam Burgess will be in the England RU squad later this year, saying "he is doing really well".

Of course, Sam Burgess is one of the best rugby players in the world and, as at the end of the last season, probably the best forward in the world.

But to say he is doing "really well" in his new sport probably says a lot more about his new sport than about Sam Burgess. I have seen all his first team RU games so far (with another to come on Sunday) and it seems to me that what he has been asked to do in all of them put together is probably less than in a quarter of a South Sydney training session.

I assume he's counting you and Gutterfax as one but with Eve, yourselves and OzWelsh involved it's hard to be sure how he whittled it down to three.

But it's not under discussion. The only people "discussing" it and boring the rest of us into submission are the 3 gompers William Eve, yourself and whoever it is that's decided to create another username as Galliant.

During the summer months, the viewing figures are even worse. June and July in particular registered no less than 7 fixtures between them which recorded less than 100k viewers last season.

You would have thought that rugby union would have understood what they were buying in Sam Burgess. But apparently not. All that talk about "maybe inside centre" "maybe back row" blah blah. Looks like they're beginning to realise they've got a rare FOOTBALLING talent. Picked at OUTSIDE Centre to play v Leicester RU on Sunday. Admitting that talent needs to be well away from all that non-sensensical RU forwards' stuff.

2 things
first up, the England set up haveeeee always said they waaaaant him at centre.........as with pan face, the club were toying with the back row but the power of central contracts won the day then, as it will now.
then secondly, your continued infatuation with a sport you openly declare you dislike is a concern. You pay good money to watch a game you don't like then continue to tune in on the basis that "you've paid for it" and now you trawl A team results and Union news to keep yourself abreast of the game you don't like.
