Disregarding the calamity which is engulfing the current "elite" league I agree entirely with this statement. Whilst I may scoff and barrack "Super" League clubs like Bradford and more recently Salford and Wakefield, I do not think it a worthwhile endeavour for current Championship chairmen to aspire to get out of the Championship and hope for the best in SL. The awful state of the bottom half of "Super" League should be a warning to anyone with half a brain and only a couple of million quid that constantly languishing outside a play-off spot in SL is going to quickly soak up any spare cash from a half-hearted benefactor. Why would anyone want that?
Concentrate on making The Championships a viable semi-pro comp. Prove the worth of their administration and their ability to grow the game in their community. Featherstone are doing a sterling job in this regard. What is wrong with what they have achieved over the last four years? Why would you jeopardize that for a place at a table which quite frankly is half occupied by retarded monkeys and complete basket cases?

That's why a full time SL2 would work, the gap between FT and PT is too great to make a quantum leap, the same for the reverse with a current SL club reforming at the bottom with no guaranteed way of getting back.
Do your numbers, £1m squad in SL2 will be £650k above what Fax/Leigh spend now - the sky deal proposed would bridge all but £100k of that, if that and much more cant be generated then that club should not be putting itself forward.
We have a situation probable in 2014 where Bradford, Cas, Wakey and London would probably not be spending over £1m in the elite comp.

| What you don’t seem to get is that a contraction of SL and this SL 1 and SL 2 you are banging on about doesn’t reduce that gap, it increases it.
And yes Fev, Fax and Leigh will receive an extra 650k in funding, The 4 who are relegated would lose about £800k in funding.
The difference between London/Salford and Bradford in playing strength last year was huge, Fax, Leigh, or Fev on £800k less funding than they were aren’t going to be any closer and if we change to 2 leagues of 10, that’s the level they need to be at. 2 leagues of 10 would mean the team promoted from SL2 would need to be the standard Bradford were last year to stay up. To think any of those teams would be anywhere near that level is laughable.

Cas are spending 1.6m. And are moving significantly forward off the field after several years of underperformance. We have a squad of 28 players, all of which have played in the SL or NRL.
I wish people would stop making poor assumptions and do some research before making claims.

Don't think 1.6m would go anywhere near building a new ground never mind part of it. Cas Tigers have spent a small fortune on the Glasshoughton project and it just hasn't happened for us.

Cas are a perfect example. They have traditionally much better crowds and have had time in SL and they still struggle to put out anything like a winning side in SL. Switching to 10 or bringing back P+R isn’t going to bring Cas closer to the Leeds and Wigans of this world, it will drag them further away.

| The clubs that are struggling financially need more money from central funding.
The RFL should take less of SKY's money and give more to the SL clubs who provide the matches SKY want to televise.
An extra £300,000 a year to each club would make a difference to those clubs who are financially struggling.

Change for changes sake is idiotic.
If the justification for doing something descends to nothing more than the simple fact it is different, you are on to a loser.

| SL clubs who dont spend the full salary cap should be allowed to sell the balance of their unspent cap on a year by year basis..This gives the wealthier clubs the chance to retain star players and to bring in Marquee names whilst at the same time giving underspending clubs greater financial security.
Its the star names that draw crowds so being able to retain and recruit more of them gives the game greater commercial appeal which in the long run is in everyones interest.
Setting a salary cap and for it to then be underused by some clubs is just a wasted asset.

That's £4.2 million based on 14 clubs, £3.9m if we exclude Catalans. Just how much does the RFL retain for its own admin and the rest of the game?

RFL get 1/16th, Championships get 1/16th
If clubs need more, then we can either divvy up the pie between fewer hungry mouths, or make a bigger pie.

That's what it comes down to.
Going to 12 would free up roughly £2.4m, or £200k each.
10 would mean £4.8; £480k each. Assuming Sky would pay the same for a smaller competition.
