What about Leeds and Catalans?

Leeds ended up making a profit due to the sale of some part of their ground, they had an operating loss though IIRC. Catalans are not in the UK so no data available for them. Pretty sure there was a 1000 post thread about all this a while ago.

It's impossible to get figures for the Rhinos as they are owned by Leeds Cricket, Football & Athletic Company which also includes Leeds Tykes and some other enterprises. They are all wrapped up together in one set of accounts.

Good news for Crusaders. I am optimistic of their chances this season and really believe that being in Wrexham will actually help them to progress.

Pretty grim reading apart from Hull KR and Bradford, Bradford have reduced their debt from about 500k to 17k in about 5 years, and Hull KR have invested heavily in vastly improving their stadium, Leeds only posted a profit because they flogged assets, bad news really if the top best supported club in RL still can't make a decent profit and still plays in a dump with exposed terracing.

i actually think north wales is a better place for RL to start, its very close to the lancashire teams, so its not a full day out, within an hour of saints/wigan/warrington/salford. This should lead to much bigger away crowds on friday and saturday nights as you can now make it after work.
Also they're squad is not as bad as people are saying, i predict them to come above Salford this year, with better crowds too!

Unfortunately I think you might be right!

The whole issue of profitable clubs is by the by. The RFL wouldnt support a loss making team as they have no ambition to carry a plan through. Melbourne are the best team in Oz, and are still predicted to make a loss for at least the next 5 years, but they WILL become profitable. The fact is that the NRL and newscorp are prepared to persevere with something.

Also, it actually makes more sense for clubs to run at an operational loss, it stops a lot of the tax implications. it also helps with sponsorship believe it or not, as does the setting up of youth systems as charities, its all for tax reasons.

I hope the crusdares can manage to stay around long enough to be a competitive force, and im at the stage where im a bit tired of reading how much of a "joke" they are, its happened, lets get on with the season.

I'm sure I read not so long ago that Leeds turnover is getting on towards £10M. Given the salary cap is only £1.65M where is the rest of Leeds money going for them to make an annual loss?!
