| The team would be run by the RFL as stated in the OP. Funding would come from sky and gate money same as any other club. The RFL would top this up a little bit to be able to afford a few superstars the team needs. After the first three years when the Globetrotters leave and the championship 1 club comes in they would be self sufficient.
The money would gain a great return on investment, due to a whole new region starting to watch RL, resulting in higher viewing figures and a better TV deal next time round. Just think what it could do for the game in Ireland and Scotland. A few years after the Globetrotters have left these places, we could have a Euro Nations competition that rivals the Six Nations.

And there's the problem. Super league teams surrendering some of their money. Hardly fits in with the "I'm alright Jack" attitude prevailing in the game right now

Not necessarily true. The RFL must have a fair amount of excess cash from running events like the Grand Final Challenge Cup finals Magic Weekend the Four Nations ect. If the 2013 World cup turns a big profit, the Globetrotters could be started and run off that for three years. After which the increased sky money from the increased viewing figures because of the Globetrotters.
Big business's could be brought in to sponser the team name, this could secure big funding. The O2 Globetrotters, or Red Bull Globetrotters for example.

| But the 'Globetrotters' were just some Bball side that did exhibition type stuff to entertain the crowds werent they?
How would that work in a RL type of thing?
Maybe they could be known as the Uncle Joes Mintball Globetrotters, the Peters Pie Globetrotters or the Dandelion and Burdock globetrotters?

No, at one point they were arguably the best basketball team in the world.

Well none of the SL clubs have managed it since 1997.
so who is going to play for this Globetrotters outfit?
And who is going to coach them??

It means dream on mate. Do really think the RFl is awash with money after all those empty seats at the magic weekend?
And do you really think SL chairman voted for licensing for the good of the game, as opposed to guaranteed income for their clubs for three years?
Would a welsh team be in SL if it meant a SL team losing out? No.
As i said, dream on

| Can anyone who is against the idea actually come up with any reasons why?
I think its such a shame RL fans believe they have the greatest game but object so strongly to anything which will help spread the game rather than just being played on the M62 corridor.

| 1. all RL fans already follow a team or 2/3 i myself follow the cru the scorpions and my local RLC team.
a new nomadic team will have what fans? why would people commit to a new team and get involved get passionate about that team if they knew it was going to bugger off in 12 months.
how many cru fans can honestly say if they knew they would disappear to wrexham would actually have got so heavily involved?
2 where will they play that isn't already covered. basically the end of nowhere. scotland. ireland. the isle of man. devon and cornwall. this brings the problems of travel. some fans wont and can't travel to far due to cost and or work etc. plus with only minimal interest in the local area the team would essentially be fully bankrolled by the RFL or some support tax drawn from other sides in SL.
the RFL can't afford it. especially as that team you put up would shatter all possible illusions of a salary cap.

I think you have missed the point here. Check the OP. The idea isnt to get current fans to switch alliegence and to start supporting the globtrotters. The idea is to go to a new city and get new fans and players into the game (as stated in the OP). The Globetrotters would stay in each city for three years.

Well i suppose it does rule out West Yorkshire and Lancashire, but again check the OP for suggested regions.

| manchester? no comment on that stupid idea. edingburgh and dublin great your going to risk millions in RFL funds setting up a team in an area with minimal RL interest. the good people of edinburgh really came out in force to sample the wonders of our game at magic didn't they.Birmingham. ok thasts a good idea and i've previously said a team i needed here to link the dots from london. however if you set it up here where else could you move it to after?
Bristol? please the whole place is a bigger dive than cas. they have a RU team and fooseball team that the locals barely care about. you have bath ru and gloucester ru just up the road so would get almost zero fans till the end of may and from end of august. again leading to huge bankrolling and massive financial risk to the RFL
however i have a suggestion for you. if you so interested why don't you front up a few million and do it yourself.

Nottingham and leicester, two big cities in the midlands (not too far from heartlands), no premiership football????
How about getting some players from other sports in the Globetrotters team. Jonny Wilkinson kicking? Big Show at prop? A decent sprinter on the wing (someone like dwayne chambers, but with a bit of heart)? etc etc

What came first the chicken or the egg. Why are they not interested in rugby league? Because there is no rugby league to watch. Do you think it is because rugby union is more enjoyable to watch? No I dont think this is the case either, so why do people think its not possible to have rugby league away from the M62?

They do. They just think your idea is ridiculous, so much so that it is most likely that you are on a wind-up mission.
It would make more sense (and be one hell of a lot cheaper!) to have 7 seperate on the road games instead of the Magic Weekend, and stage them all in one place (so that that area has 7 games). You wouldn't have to pay for a squad and coaching staff of world superstars that no team could afford anyway under the salary cap.
