| Quote ="Noel Cleal"Hey I like Castleford. They are my second favourite Superleague team.
But the writing looks firmly on the wall. Orr and Mathers are pretty poor signing TBH. You guys didn't have the biggest squad in the first place and Shenton and Sargent were two of your best players. Plus there is the reported drinking culture at the club with Matterson confirmed as going home after next year.
I just hope there is smoke without fire in this case.'"
Sargent has been one of our poorest players this season unfortunately.
We didn't have a big squad but losing a few of our highest earners and replacing them with decent players is just as good.
Mathers fills a void we've long suffered from - full-back. That means McGoldrick can move to centre to replace Shenton.
We're looking at recruiting another top prop or two to replace Sargent. We should have a decent squad next season with a few more recruits.

Dispensation on a mere ONE player ffs!
Production line starting to deliver - Welham, Watts, Mariano, Latus, Spaven etc, all going great up here thanks bud.
Seriously though it really should be time to end the stupid 30 year London experiment. It's just simply not worked - the crowds are terrible, you take 5 fans to away games on average, there's just no interest there! Like I said before, not selling out a Challenge Cup Final allocation in your own city and been outnumbered 3-1 by a Yorkshire team told me everything I needed to know, and the only thing that's changed since that day is your crowds have sank even lower!
I'm sure you could be a very competitive Championship club though, + there'd be the derby with Skollars.

| simple solution ...
2 tiers, The European super league, wigan, warrington, st helens, leeds,
hull, hudds, catalans, toulouse, quins, crusaders, hull kr , bradford
and the "Heartlands" League, for those who don't like to stray too far from the M62
cas, wakey , salford, halifax, widnes, leigh, barrow, featherstone, sheffield, batley dewsbury, keighley , whitehaven, hunslet, oldham etc even make it into 2 conferences to reduce travel (west pennines, east pennines perhaps )
and as for london skolars, gateshead and south wales, tough.. not super and not "heartlands" ...
now, where did I put Richard Lewis's number ...

Well from what I can gather we got dispensation for 1 player yes, whereas you had a team full of Aussies in the 90's - doesn't that class as help too.
Oh, and we actually earned our place in SL, we didn't benefit from RFL bias.

| Quote ="gutterfax"125 years of development, heritage and history and you can't find 30 local players....outstanding performance
In 15 years of Superleague Rugby in the Capital Quins have achieved more than some "heartland" clubs have in over a century....but because we get small crowds we should be jetisoned
Tell you wahat, read the "what if your team went down" thread. You'll see that I offer a balanced view of how I'd feel about it if we did go.....but temper that with your club having less income next year by say, about 1.2 million. How long would your benefactor be prepared to suffer that along side the 3 million he's already swallowed. I have no doubt that once somebody has pointed out to the decision makers at SKY exactly where Keighley is they will be happy with the swap
'" With SL clubs sniffing around the best players?
Oldham did well keeping Sinfield in the local area..................Oh wait he went to Leeds.

Not really. I Simply don't get his arguement - London RL was (undeservedly) in SL for ten years before us, but Rovers are now better supported at home, better supported away, sell more merchandise, have a better team, have done better in the league the last two years, and benefit the RL community locally, so I'm not sure what his point is.

S_L_O_W_L_Y....just for you roofs
In 1995 Professional and Amateur RL pretty much didn't exist in the Greater London area other than a few ex-pat type teams.
This region, whilst maybe not important to our principled cousins in the norf, was targeted as of specific interest to our friends at BSkyB for both the continued sale of dishes and the all important advertising revenue that can be achieved from it. As such, London RL was fast tracked into SL. After 15 years of moving about, changing names, going to the wall and being called a team full of aussies, London RL now boasts a very healthy amateur set up, thousands of school kids playing the game and a team in the top league that until this year, hasn't finished bottom of the league.
When Licences were awarded in 2008, Harlequins RL were told they needed to improve their gates and they have not and therefore, if they do get ejected, they really have nobody else to blame. This I have no issue with.
What I do have an issue with is the flat earth mentality of some on here, who forget that without the money that BSkyB pumped into the game from 1995, their beloved clubs would have folded long ago. I also take issue with these so called "traditional" clubs having trouble finding 30 players from their own areas and as a result, going cap in hand to the RFL to get the rules "bent" in their favour. All this, while little old quins rumble along with 3k fans and a team full of local lads...I have no doubt that HKR and other clubs have the hump that Quins fans travel up to games in a taxi....and all the associated lost revenue, but these very same fans would soon know about it if Rupert bu99ered off and left them with a massive defecit to deal with every year.
Wigan and FC, together with other clubs have taken this lack of away fans and turned into an opportunity......they market their games v us heavily and as a result, we do not fall into the worst home game gate of the season for 11 of the current SL clubs......so the away fan thing is rubbished. As for home fans, please explain where the number of home fans at a quins RL game impacts on any other team? David Hughes, for now, back quins and covers our losses, so the lack of fans is his and the clubs issue, but SFA to do with the fans or management of any other club.....so that point is pretty much dead and buried as well.
Next up, development. In 15 years we have taken a nothing sport to a healthy state in the SE of England. As a bi-product, we have 2 cockney internationals for England...these are RL players BTW, not Union converts. This conveyer belt of talent will only get stronger with time. So, we have established that London RL has terrible crowds (an issue, no doubt) but doesn't impact on the income of other clubs who are proactive. That London RL is producing young talent at an alarming rate (see under age rep teams over the last 2 years) and has raised the profile of the game as far as BSkyB are concerned.
Yes...we have terrible crowds and yes, we need David Hughes to keep us afloat financially, but at least 7 ther SL clubs rely in a benefactor and ALL of them would be bu99ered without Ruperts money,
So there you have it roofs.......Quins have terrible crowds and most of their fans (IMO) wouldn't be stunned if we didn't get another licence, but we are in no different a boat from at least 66% of the clubs in SL at the moment........wea re all looking over our shoulders and worrying.
Difference is, Quins fans don't knee-jerk and try to belittle other clubs to make themselves feel more secure...... We are objective in our assessment. We understand our failings, but we very rarely feel the need to point out the state of another sides ground, the lack of covered permanent seating, crowd trouble, pitch invasions, reported debts of 3,000,000 pounds, the need for extra overseas players rather than blooding young locals or the fact that their development is a shambles when compared to a 15 year old club......we don't do that because it's not our way

| I think this fiasco can still be turned into a positive by the RFL. Get these boys on board, prime time TV slot booked. Have a glitzy studio and a live TV audience. Have the Chairmen from all the Super League sides around a mock campfire and announce those who are staying.
"Wakefield Wildcats, it [imight [/ibe you"
Get down to the last two teams and then build a cliff hanger, then leave it until after the advert break. Classic TV. Those clubs who were staying could then be interviewed by Cat Deeley backstage with a glass of champagne in their hands.
They could then do the same for the club coming up.
