If an NRL team put in an offer he’d have been straight back to Australia and the only other team strongly into him here in Leeds didn’t have a marquee spot left so unlikely we were offering him more as ALL his wage would’ve counted on the cap whereas it’s just £150k at Wigan with him becoming marquee. Plus Leeds had no interest in agreeing to an NRL release clause which made any potential wages irrelevant. Still, makes them/him sound better if they stay he turned down more to go to them even if it isn’t true.

At least my argument has some logic with Leeds unable to make him marquee thus severely affecting how much he’d cost us on our cap, whereas you’ve just plucked Sinfield moving on Merrin or Hurrell on out of thin air. Without him being able to be marquee for Leeds then we simply don’t have the cap space to have offered him big money.

And if Leeds wouldn’t agree to a NRL clause then he didn’t turn us or our money down we turned him down.

He didn’t get shut of Furner, Hetherington sacked him, and it wasn’t because their was a better option as we’re still without a permanent new coach. McDermott again was sacked by Hetherington.

No I don’t think he’d get rid of either player that he signed and is very happy with and has tied to long contracts for a guy who could be gone within 12 months and need you starting all over again.

Nobody knows the money side. We do know Leeds really wanted Hastings. It seems the NRL clause became a big problem though, as at one stage Leeds were willing to pay a fee to get him this year.

Anyway, Maloney is now the big question. I know Leeds have been linked but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes elsewhere.

In regards to the two year deal Jacko made it clear he only wants a year so the NRL clause will kick in sooner rather than later I believe. So hardly building a team around him. No. The Sydney Roosters will have Lachlan Lam (son of Adrian Lam) and perhaps Kyle Flanagan (son of former Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan) as carefully groomed but inexpensive candidates to replace Cooper Cronk. The Roosters want a relatively inexpensive half to partner Luke Keary because they will need lot of money to retain Latrell Mitchell. So the Roosters will not be bidding for Jackson Hastings.

Depends if he can replicate his Salford form at Wigan which isnt a guarantee. If he doesn't, his stock may fall

McDermott?? Sinfield didn't return until after he was sacked. And while he was probably partly responsible for sacking Furner - though to what extent is uncertain - Furner himself was hardly blameless, given results and performances.

But I forget: Salford have never, ever in their history sacked a coach.

We have but it always took some doing John Harvey didn't even get the boot after our worst result ever that 96-16 defeat at Bradford.

Hastings joined Wigan as they're essentially offering him a one year contract on very good money. Plus he might have a chance at a trophy which will be next to impossible at Salford next year.

Wigan have basically signed Hastings for 1 season before the NRL release clause comes into force (IF an NRL club then actually wants to sign him after this time ?)
If not then Wigan could have him for longer (But with the constant threat that Hastings could return home at the drop of a hat when an NRL club comes calling)

IMO Leeds wanted him badly and were even willing to pay a transfer fee to Salford in order to get him in for the remainder of the 2019 season plus for a further guaranteed 3 seasons beyond,But without an NRL release clause!

IMO this is the best decision for the Rhinos at this moment in time.

What happens if Hastings does get the call during pre season of 2021,How will Wigan deal with that at such a late time before the new season?

We would cope fine. McIlorum and Gelling (starting hooker and centre) left us at the start of Jan last year, still ended up lifting the SL atrophy.

Well with Tui going and Lui coming in, Watkins not getting marquee there has to be a spot at Leeds. They didnt want an NRL clause in there thats why hes at Wigan. I reckon Leeds offered more to try ofset the clause. The fact Leeds probably offered marqueeprobably tells you there will be 3 marquee spots in SL next year
