Still down on 2012 though.
Saturday: 30,793 (2012: 30,763)
Sunday: 31,249 (2012: 32,953)
Attended yesterday and last year and enjoyed both occasions, but questions have to be raised as to why no progress has been made in terms of crowds and where this event is heading.
Tickets are already as cheap as they can realistically get for a major event, the weather for 2012 and this weekend was good and the RFL have marketed the event for months.

My bad......I quoted what Sportinglife had on their site....they've updated it now.
I am still 100% accurate in my belief that the guy stealing a wage as marketing guru at the RFL is currently presiding over a dramatic drop in attendances.....Saracens can fill wembley on their own in an "event" game, the RFL can't get close with their event games.......tickets to Magic are a cheap as they can go, exiles tickets are almost been given away with free shirts and the last mention of RLWC ticket sales was 1,500 sold "en masse" to London RL.....Wembley holds 90,000 BTW
The increasing dependance on SKY TV cash is killing the game in the UK...... it is no coincidence that the successful and profitable/near profitable clubs are the ones averaging 10k+.....fans are drifting as they can watch games on TV....the RFL has a duty to stop this drift, because unless they have the phone numbers of 10 more Dr Cash Cows, the drift will continue, the reliance on TV Cash will become even more dangerous and eventually, you'll end up with a 10 team top tier with the same top 5 every season.

| Sportinglife has the attendance as 31249 for every match today, 31249+31249+31249 = 93747, divide by 3 = 31249 per game just for today! Wow!

huge corporation attendance with the casual fans as they probably can relate to union as majority would have played it at school and the fact they was giving out free tickets to any one who would ask for it, everything else i agree with you. The RFL need to put pressure on the lower teams who are not performing not just on the rugby field but off it, in this economy you have to be active not content.

Rugby League needs to learn from Rugby Union in the UK and fast!
Union is slower, less dynamic, riddled with stupid and intricate rules and interpretations and is generally very confusing, especially to the first time viewer, yet the people employed to polish this turd are experts.
The Aviva Premiership averages 47% more fans than the SL, the Heineken Cup averages nearly 6 times the average of the Challenge Cup and internationally.....well, let's just say that 11 x 82,000 in 1 year is a lot more than England RL can muster in a decade or maybe even 2.
The current decline in attendances in Top Tier RL in the UK is the responsibility of the RFL and the clubs themselves....I would say that 5 clubs are pulling their weight whilst the other 9 and the RFL are doing the opposite.
I know that Union isn't league by the way.......same way I understand the concept of reality, which a good few so called RL Fans seem to have trouble with.

Are they? Or is it a far easier job?

No it doesn't. The Aviva Premiership averaged nearly 12,500 last year. SL averaged roughly 10,500. That's a 19% higher average for the Aviva Premiership, which includes several one-off games at Twickers and Wembley and is somewhat distorted by high crowds at Leicester.
As for the Heineken Cup it averaged nearly 13,500 in 2012/13. Is the Challenge Cup average really only 2,250? Is it a valid comparison? An elite pro only cup compared to a cup involving amateur teams?
Internationally they're out of sight, but aren't that far ahead domestically. They have similar struggles to RL in domestic terms. As evidenced by the dearth (and slow death) of northern union teams.
Quote ="gutterfax"The current decline in attendances in Top Tier RL in the UK is the responsibility of the RFL and the clubs themselves....I would say that 5 clubs are pulling their weight whilst the other 9 and the RFL are doing the opposite. '"
Until this season attendances had been increasing. I'd agree on some clubs not pulling their weight but I'd also suggest the clubs mismanagement and the economy is having a far greater impact upon RL than anything the RFL may be doing wrong.

I know in gutterfaxland Rugby League can be removed from its place in the world and transformed overnight into a sporting colossus, maybe through a few posters in a pub or flowers on a roundabout. In the real world, it isn't that simple. Being Rugby League isn't easy.

8,500/12,500 = 47%. SL is currently averaging 8,500....Aviva just finished on 12,500.
As for the "event" games run by the RFU, I would suggest that the reason they "distort" is because they are actually attended Magic Weekend is on the doorstep of most RL fans and yet, even with tickets starting for the price of a happy meal, 30k seems to be the ceiling.
And as for Leciester.....you could say the same about the SL average once you pull Leeds out of the equation.

Why are you comparing a partial season average with a full season? That's daft. As is comparing the Heineken Cup to the Challenge Cup. You would actually be better comparing the Heineken Cup to the World Club Challenge.
Yes, and I'm not criticising those event games, good on the RFU for doing them and packing people in. But as you yourself described them, they are event games and don't reflect the general attendances. The same goes for Leicester because they are so far ahead of most other Aviva Premiership clubs. The same doesn't really apply to League as there isn't 1 club way above the others in terms of attendances. I'd be interested to see what the AP average was excluding Leicester, I'm willing to bet its not far off the SL full season average.
But that still doesn't take away from the fact that whilst there is plenty of slack RL needs to take up, RL has significantly more challenges than RU, yet is still comparable domestically.

Fair point. Problem is, where Union is ahead of League in the UK, the ARL/NRL is lightyears ahead of the RFL. When I say "learn from the RFU" I simply mean the way they market themselves and offer strong leadership.....the RFL do come across as a very amateur organisation by comparrison.
The NRL can dictate to media and broadcast partners.....the RFL seem almost apologetic in their dealings with them.

Calm down. He was using an example of a club that has been either top or 2nd in the attendances for a decade now. Funny how Wigan fans get so defensive though, even when it comes to something as minor as the average attendance
