Catalans certainly don’t look in danger of relegation on today’s performance

A great and deserved win for the French heartlands club and the Super League expansion club Catalans Dragons.

They have deservedly beaten Hull FC 25-24, and raised themselves off the bottom of the table.

Catalans are now only four (4) points outside the top 8, where silly Salford temporarily hold 8th spot.

Strange game to watch and wouldn't have argued with the draw. Hope the injuries aren't as bad as they looked?

Shocking result for Hull, far too reliant on Kelly and partly Sneyd. They’re definitely missing Watts as well, their front row looks very weak. Miloudi was very good though, he should keep his place but no doubt overrated Shaul will come back when available. They actually had an attacking threat at FB for once.

They've only got four more games at home though, including Leeds & Cas, they will certainly have to up the tempo when playing away, to make the top eight.

If David Mead can come back from injury next week I would play him at full back and put Anthony Gigot in the centres.

On today's form I would retain Joshua Drinkwater at scrum half for 2019, and buy and play Sydney Roosters' Mitchell Cornish at five eighth in place of the weak defender Samisoni Langi.

I agree. But the positional changes that I mentioned in my previous post are necessary for Catalans to up the tempo.

Catalans will surely lose to St Helens next Thursday night. But they have to, and can, draw even with current 8th Salford by beating them away as well as at home. Catalans then have to beat one other top 8 team, and hope that Widnes, Hull KR and Huddersfield keep losing to top 8 teams, in order for Catalans to make the top 8. This scenario was looking highly unlikely before today, but the benefits brought by Joshua Drinkwater (both his general play and his goal kicking) give Catalans at least [ia chance[/i of making the top 8.

I don’t think a team in 6th place of the Championship, will be able to beat Catalans, a team who just beat Challenge Cup holders Hull fc.

We were pretty poor and only marginally above average for the season but which club isn't reliant on it#s first choice half backs?

That’s right, take for example Catalans, they have been struggling most of the year without halfback Luke Walsh, they have now signed a replacement in Josh Drinkwater and got the win.

They won a game did they, look at their lat 8 games and tell us how they look like a SL outfit.
