Walmsley and Williams for me. Both head and shoulders above anybody else in their position (as in, with Williams no other young half back compares).

Williams is miles ahead as the standout young player.

You could just as easily argue Hardaker and Cuthbertson have been head and shoulders above anyone in their positions too. Such a silly argument.

Cuthbertson edging Walmsley mainly because when head to head Cuthbertson has simply out played him and Saints.

I didn't rate Williams at the start of the season, but as the season progresses so do his performances.

Out of interest, who wouldn't you have on the list and who would you replace them with?

It's the same every year. Every year it's "there's no stand outs this year", "it's been a poor year".

RL fans are just a set of negative w@nkers. We wonder why the sport doesn't attract more fans, but it's no surprise when the people who watch it do nothing but, criticise, and talk the sport down.

I'd swap Walmsley and Currie for McGillvary and Percival.

walmsley has been magnificent, and as others have said has almost single handedly carried saints at times, he gets my vote

as for the young player, well i honestly can't say any of them have impressed me.

Why is it a shocking list?

Walmsley has made over 4,000m with the ball and Cuthbertson has absolutely smashed records in offloading and has done around double the amount of the next leading guy.

I think either of those two would be worthier winners than most of the recent winners of the award.

I think so too, both players doing a tremendous amount of work and having a major impact on there team in the hardest place ........the engine room.

From what I've seen of Leeds, Cuthbertson and Hardacker have made the difference for them in plenty of games. Walmsley, good player that he is, just hasn't had the wow factor about him.

By the way, does anyone know how the shortlist is drawn up?

Gary Hetherington tells the RFL which 3 players to choose.

The players vote, and the top 3 make the shortlist. A panel of journalists, and ex players then pick the winner.

And I bet he only picked Walmsley because he's from Yerksher.
