| Having had a sour taste left in my mouth on Sunday. I did wonder how Wigan managed to outflank our defence, in nearly every attacking play.
Whats your view on our defensive strategy and apart from the Head Coach, who really is in charge or our defensive game plan?

| Defence doesn't win games, it puts you in a strong position to win a game.

| It doesn't matter if you score 100 points if the opposition score 101.
Defence is the foundation on which championships are won.

| I can bet that the team that wins the GF this year won't have shipped 44 points a game, let alone have an attack that looks as though it couldn't score 44 points in a season.

| It would be nice to not just have the feeling that the opposition will score everytime they have the ball.

| For the past few years everyone has be pointing to our poor defence, we hear the talk but nobody is walking the walk. Until MP gets a grip of the defensive coach or sort it himself we can look forward to a lot more points being put past us. I did notice on Sunday that MSH was doing a lot of talking whilst we were under the sticks waiting for the Wiggin kick. To no avail!!!

| Defence requires organisation, teamwork, fitness and a strong work ethic.
These qualities were there away at Cas but lacking in our two home games. Players need to realise that they have to perform more consistently. Coaches need to ensure that the preparation is of the highest quality every week. I'm sure they aspire to this but obviously it doesn't happen as results bear it out.

Maybe not, but Leeds certainly had been on the end of several hefty defeats last season (not to mention the Bulls in 05). We hadn't even beaten any of the top clubs until the last game before the play-offs. For most of the season our defence wasn't at the races (as our attack wasn't against the top sides). I see Saints have conceded quite a few points in recent games also.
With the number of new faces & injured players in your team some of the blow-out scores that you've been on the end of aren't really surprising, especially when your already small pack is missing some key individuals.
I wouldn't be too concerned by results to date. Beating Cas shows that the team are capable of edging out teams who will be competing on the fringes of making the play-offs. As long as these wins keep coming along you will have something to build on while the team gels and some of the more experienced pack men return.

| Defence will not win you matches, but it will certainly stop you losing them! OUr success between 96-06 was built on a strong defence, and taking chances in attack. Remember when Phil Clarke used to say that when we got in the 20 we almost always scored? We were never really a team to play length of the field, attacking rugby, but we had an effective attack on the back of Brutal defence. when we got a roll on we were unstoppable, but on occasions when we didnt get going, it could be dour. Think Brian Mac, Scott Naylor, Mick Forshaw, Jimmy Lowes, Lee Radford, Bernard Dwyer. all no nonsense players that were worth their weight in Gold in defence. It was noticable last season that when our two top tacklers, Langley and Lestrange were both in the side, our results were better! and when they were out, we were 60-70 tackles short and sometimes quite an embarrassment.
