| Lestrange for me. Lynch isn't up to it which is pretty clear. Lestrange seems to have a lot of respect in the team since his arrival. Always Eager to get forward and getting in scrums, shouting orders out and celebrating with passion after every try. For me I think he be great. Thoughts?

| If Langley can stay fit, I think he's pretty vocal and the team defends better (Wigan aside) . Big question on the fitness though.
As vocal as L'estrange is, he only plays 1/2 game and when Langley's fit, he on for most of the game.
If Lynch was captain in 2012, I wouldn't complain. I actually think he has been vocal at times when we have been losing.

Are those your criteria for captaincy?
To me, they are merely criteria for any aspiring successful sportsman. What criteria are you REALLY looking for in a captain? I lifted the following off a site* at random. There will be loads of other variations, but I thought a list like this might serve by way of example:
- the desire to lead by example
- a passionate belief in team spirit
- the ability to handle the conflicts that invariably arise when a team is under pressure
- the desire to put more input in planning the team’s strategies
- the ability to handle problems which may arise in a fair and expedient manner (eg. disqualifications)
- the ability to behave professionally and responsibility despite personal feelings of frustration and anger
- a thorough knowledge of the rules of the game
- a desire to build relationships with other members of the team, in good times and bad
- the ability to handle the burden of being captain while still playing in the team-
- the ability to inspire and motivate and raise team morale
How many of these criteria are we able to judge by what we see on the park on matchday? Hmm?

| A fit Langley also gets my vote, but there is a big question mark over whether he can stay fit. Alot of bulls fans are crying out for a pack leader in the Glenn Morrison mould, but I think we already have this in Jamie Langley, when fit he leads from the front, he tightens up the defence no ends and puts them into place when they aren't bending their backs. I can't see any other candidates in the team other than heath and disko

| We've already got the French international captian in our ranks, I cant understand why he's not the captain anyway. Can't see it being anybody but Lynch next season.

| Interesting point re Olivier, Mike. Although I suppose you could say the same about Leeds and JP? Would Olivier be your man?

You could, but look at how excellently Sinfield has captained Leeds over the years though.
Most definatley Olivier for me.

He has. And, from at least one person who has known him since before his teens, I gather he has always been a pretty exceptional - and very intelligent - player and individual. Can't deny I would have given a lot to see someone like him at Odsal.
I can see where you are coming from with Olivier. I guess the trouble is that we do not see anything other than what happens on the park on matchdays, so it is very hard to judge objectively?

Le'strange all the way for captain. Langley- not a chance as he is too injury prone and doesn't even justify his massive wags and so he wouldn't fulfill captains roll as he is never on the bleeding pitch! I think as time goes on his body will age even more and he will be more Suceptable to even more injuries.

| Lestrange, he has got everything a captain needs to rally his players, Langley has had his chance and I’m not sure he has made the best of it, let somebody else prove themselves.

| I can't help but think that a few people have a somewhat two-dimensional view of a captain's full role, and of his necessary attributes and qualities?
For example, would Sir James have made a good first-choice captain? Remember Presley's immortal words (when Robbie was off the park and Jimmy had the armband) "Where's Robbie? I want to talk to someone sensible"?

| I wouldn't give Heath the captaincy, he's abit of a loon which works well to bring enthusiasm but thats not always what you need from a captain. Its a guess but given the character he seems to have I don't think he'd want to be captain anyway.
I wouldn't change the captain but encourage more people to take responsibility especially in the back line. I don't think the problem is Lynch as captain as much as alot of the time its only Lynch giving any leadership. You can see the difference when Heath and Langley are on the pitch because they add some more leadership. Elima doesn't seem to have done that and in fact didn't he say in an interview he was happier now he was play and not being captain?
Hopefully with a full preseason one or more of the halfbacks we have will step up to the plate and start organising abit.

| I have played with a number of headless chickens in the Heath mould, brilliant players in their own right but should never be let near the captaincy. Lynch doesn't do it for me as captain, I would prefer Elima. Failing him I can't see an obvious choice.

Suspect part of the problem is that a lot of teams have playmakers as captains. so you have a player doing the typical captains roles, leading by example etc, but also doing the playmakers organising role as well. the organising role isnt necessarily part of captains role but because a lot of teams have captains who are also playmakers the distinction between the roles has become blurred. We've done this ourselves in past with robbie, harris and deacon as captains so maybe its something our fans in particular have come to expect?
