Just been watching the footage that the BBC provided of this event and it's such a shame that this excellent competition (from the footage I've seen) unfortunatley only lasted two years.

To get over 7,300 people into Central Park on a cold freezing Wednesday evening must have been some achievement.

It even had a decent sponsor in British Coal and the prize money was a pretty cool £6000 (this seasons Carnegie 9's gave £10,000 to the winners Wigan).

Anyhow after watching all the games, I thought it was a great competition with Bradford Northern, Leeds, Rest Of The World and a President's IX in Pool A, while St Helens, Warrington, Widnes and Wigan made up Pool B.

The results we're as follows:

First Round:

Warrington 12-6 Wigan
Leeds 6-4 Presidents IX
St Helens 14-12 Widnes
Bradford Northern 0-4 Rest Of The World

Semi-Finals:

Warrington 6-0 St Helens
Rest Of The World 16-12 Leeds

Final:

Warrington 24-0 Rest Of The World

Something caught my eye was that once Wigan had lost the first game, over half of the crowd left , something that was very reminiscent of the events that took place at Headingley in this years 9's, in that like Leeds when they went out, the home supporters left the ground and didn't stay on till the death.

Just goes to show that over twenty years later the same thing is still happening
