| Quote ="debaser"My own view would be to bite the bullet and vote for whoever is most likely to beat the Conservatives. In my constituency we have the odious Philip Davies, and Labour are always nowhere near. I would vote Green or Lib Dems if they could somehow collaborate to unseat the slimy Tory Toad. And across the country the same, collaboration across the parties to stop the Jackbooted May from destroying this country.
My only hope lies with the youth. My daughter and her friends are eligible to vote this time for the first time ever, and they are all violently pro-Europe and anti-Tory, so get out there, mobilise, vote and get the Tories out....'"
Unfortunately since re-locating I also have that poor excuse of a human being as my MP.
The man who tried to block an anti domestic violence bill by giving a 90 minute speech. It's ok though, they are no longer the nasty party.
He can be found filibustering when any ethical bill is put forward. An hour long speech to stop schools teaching first aid, 90 minutes to stop carers getting free parking at hospitals.

I wouldn't bet on it.
We probably have more chance of being world club champions again in 10 years than the EU still having the same number of members with the way people are turning against the establishment.

I am not sure I would want to have a pint with him. Ken Clarke was one I would want to sit and have a pint and chat with.
I do think though that of all the people who have being in politics there are very few who have affected politics and managed to get something as massive as this done. Most talk about doing something but do nothing. Like him or hate him he has done what he said he would do. Very few can say that. I can't think of many if any who achieved such a monumental achievement. If Brexit ends up as a disaster he will be a villain. If it works out well then his story will be written in history. Time will tell.
I just hope this thread isn't still running in ten years time.

| For me the referendum was about freedom and actually voting for the politicians that make the rules we live our lives by might be a novel concept, but it's one I was prepared to believe in!
Whilst I appreciate that the nation's younger demographic voted to remain it's a real shame that they lack the confidence and vision to determine their own place in the world and future in it.
Fortune favours the brave....

This election is all about the establishment. The racist, xenophobic Brexiteers voted against Europe, despite it having little effect on the Tories destroying health, education, social care & massively increasing disparity between rich & poor. The Tories are the establishment, a public school ruling elite with a core who have a hatred of public bodies such as the NHS & state schools, who think it is their divine right to rule & control. This is the establishment people are voting for, an elite with absolutely no connection to the average working person. The EU was anti-establishment in some ways in that it strengthened workers' rights, health & the environment. If people really cared about democracy they would be arguing for devolution to regions in a federal way, similar to Germany.

This, much as they like to present it in those terms, isn't turning [iagainst[/i the establishment though, Farage, Le Pen and all the others represent the far right of that establishment - they are not separate from it . Their major wish is to further the cause of the haves vis-a-vis the have nots by ending all social and environmental controls.
If you like the idea of no H&S at work, no fall-back social security, zero hours contracts, NHS paid by insurance premiums, companies being above the law (and if we get TTIP, American corporations will be [imaking[/i our laws) and workers having no representation and fracking in your back garden then by all means vote for them. He did [unot[/u say nor imply that [uall[/u Brexiteers are racist or xenophobic.

Above their inbuilt desire to do all this though is their desire to have the reins. So, if they had reason to believe that everyone affected by these policies would actually vote, then they'd either have to curb these instincts or else we'd have a fundamentally different election result to that anticipated.
If everyone who fails to vote in any given constituency for once did so, they would decide the outcome in over 50% of places.
But that will never happen.

Sadly, the number of people directly affected, who [iwill[/i vote for them is unbelievable. Working class people who tell me, quite proudly, that they are Tories makes my mind boggle. It's a free election and people vote for who they want, but why anyone would vote against their own best interests baffles me. The rich rarely do, so-called, 'champagne socialists', are very few in number, whilst working class people who vote Conservative must number many millions, or as you say they'd never get in..

Faux hysteria noted. FA has already corrected your post. What I would say is that [uevery[/u leave person I heard on the radio around Brexit time spoke about their fear of immigration, foreigners taking proud Brit's jobs/houses/hospital beds, & taking back control of laws from foreigners. IMO that is a classic definition of xenophobia. I know a number of people who voted Brexit, some of them I would have to class as friends, but know they are not racist, though they still exhibit an illogical fear of foreign law makers. If that is too much for your obvious sensitive disposition I apologise.
What you will see happen, & is happening, is all those xenophobes & racists will move on to the next faux enemy when we have left Europe & kicked all the forriners out. That will be the unemployed, homeless, long-term ill, prisoners, poor etc. There is a poem written by German priest Martin Niemöller which I suggest you look up.

37% of the total electorate. See earlier
I'm certain the NHS lie caused a swing of 2-3%. That was the final piece of the jigsaw to deliver a Brexit vote.
And a lie of that magnitude was needed to get it. And for a Brexit politician, the end justifies the means because once they'd won, the right wing media would gloss over the lie that delivered Brexit and continue to smear everyone that didn't toe the line.

Eh?
Have a word with yourself.
Tigertot is easily one of (if not THE) most fair minded and intelligent poster I have ever had the fortune to read, on any message board, ever.
The problem nowadays is that people are not allowed to have an opinion because of comments like yours who try to censor anything they disagree with.
I would suggest if you cannot abide by a differing opinion to yours then a message board is not the best place for you to be.

| But what about the lie of the punishment budget threatened by George Osbourne? How many did that put off voting for Brexit? Lets be honest the campaigns were poorly run by both.
Also i don't get why people keep bringing up the population percentage of the vote. Those who didn't vote, their opinion is completely irrelvant. I haven't gone back in history to check the full stats, but how many majority governments would we genuinely have had if you took the percentage of the population rather than the elecotrate. 15 million people didn't vote the last GE. In fact the biggest majority is the none voters! The referendum was the biggest turnout ever for a british election/referendum i believe.

That is a very good point about about dumbing down for those who can only take in small, and simple points. Unfortunately, we see it in education now just so the results stay high. The fake news and rise of social media is a real problem. I work in ICT / computing and see the bad side of it every day and see how people say things behind a keyboard that they would not say face to face with a real person. It will only get worse as it depends on people showing restraint - which won't happen.
The reason I was annoyed at the post was I totally dislike people being grouped together (branded) because of a certain reason whether that being their colour, size, language or even political ideology. They could be a black, gay, Tory, vegan with ginger hair and wear glasses and be a really good person. We should not lump lots of people you do not know into one big group simply because they ticked a certain box. It is wrong to do that as people are different. Judge someone how you find them and not on how they look and the world would be better. We just need to be careful which words are used when describing people you don't know. My next door neighbour is a proper racist. He hates foreigners purely because of skin colour and where they are from. I have had heated discussions with him as I believe he is wrong and should get to know people. He voted to remain as his grandson works in France and his sister lives in Spain. It is more complicated than hating foreigners or not.
All I would say is keep the discussions civil and accept peoples differing opinions. It is good that we live in a democracy and have the chance to vote openly but it is also important that results are accepted and people then get on with each other and make things work.

| What saddens me is that there is an enduring poltical need for a right wing protest party pandering to the petty and baseless fears of the working classes. The BNP rose to provide a voice for the white working classes who mistakenly thought they'd get one by voting in that way. The BNP were always going to be screwed when UKIP gained prominence as people tripped over themselves to join a party that was perceived to be slightly less toxic. Essentially UKIP is the BNP in lipstick. How the working man and woman can vote for a party that has stated it believes in eroding their working rights, statutory holiday, maternity pay etc simply defies belief. I fell out with the working classes last June. They are so petulant in their desire to strike a blow against a faux establishment that they cheerfully vote to directly harm themselves. It truly sickens me.
