This argument only holds so much weight. As I've posted on another thread, there are plenty of examples of teams with inexperienced back-room staff winning trophies (Leeds) and teams with experienced back-room staff (Wigan) failing to win things. It probably isn't helping McNamara but I doubt it is a major contributing factor to the poor season you've just had. Poor recruitment, good players not performing to potential and an apparent lack of ideas from the coach on how to change things are the main problems IMO.

I'm certainly not saying it's all the assistants fault by any stretch.

We don't know the circumstances under which they were employed (funds, availability etc), lets not forget, with all going on at the time Steve took over, there was probably an element of "panic" and a need to get people in those positions pretty quickly.

I just think Steves' strengths have probably been diluted by trying to cover off all bases and almost "train up" the two guys under him

I know we've been here before already today & while I have some sympathy with the possible lack of funds argument he still chose them. There will be a limitless supply of former players wanting a crack at coaching, Mac obviously chose the wrong ones.

Why would he have to train St Hilaire when he had already being an assistant coach for 3 years before he came here.

T&A in yet another gaff shock, havent they heard of ringing club and getting confirmation/comment before they print a story.
Notice they dont deny bit about lowes though.

...yet the story is up on the T&A site (as well, I presume, as in the printed edition). In it, Craven talks of the sackings as fact - he does not couch them in terms of speculation or rumour. I would think that this would make Craven's role difficult if not untenable, and that there may even be further repercussions for the T&A.

Mmmm. But reading between the lines . . .

one claim was "he has been told his contract will not be renewed in November". If they are coming up to the last year of their contracts and if nothing is being done to renew them then whilst obviously not being "sacked" you'd think they would be offski if someone else gives them a 2 year or more deal.

McNamara has neither denied their imminent departure, nor has anyone said a word IN SUPPORT of the said coaching staff, so the denial, dealing simply with the blunt claims of "sacked" and "axed" ain't as black and white as it seems.

So either someone is feeding the T&A libellously-duff info - I have argued in the past about outside influences seeking to destabilise the club - or the T&A is making serious mischief (unlikely). Either way this latest screw up reflects very badly on the T&A. Hmm.

Incidentally, the Bulls statement does not actually refute the suggestion that they are all leaving at the end of the season, just the words used to describe what allegedly happened to them. It states that they are all "...contracted to the end of 2010" (in the case of Clawson, thats contrary to the T&A report). That does not actually mean that they will be seeing their contracts out, of course - nor does it imply anything other than they will not.

Same as in the last T&A screw-up, their retraction did not actually refute the fact that Cummings had admitted the officials were pants, just that the Scumster had apologised to the club for it.

whilst the t&a making mischief may be unlikely, I wouldnt be surprised if their impartial, rhinos supporting, reporter was. Mr craven has a bit of history for posting potentially stirring type stories without getting facts from club before publishing.

I think the last sentence 'all three remain contracted until the end of 2010' surely indicates they won't be going anywhere? I wonder perhaps if we're planning on having a bit of a change around on the coaching staff but simply bringing Lowes in? Compared to Wigan for example, we do seem short on number on the coaching team.

Probably. Definitely seems to have been a break down in relationship between the club and the T&A. You would think that Craven would have made fairly sure of his claims by contacting the club before running this story. He certainly seemed almost certain that the information was correct in the article.

Its smart wording - it is clearly meant to be read that way - and indeed it may well be the case. But equally, why did it not go on to say that they were not going anywhere? If subsequently, say, someone left "by mutual agreement" (code for pay-off and compromise agreement) then the club could truthfully say they did not tell an untruth.

Your suggestion of course provides a "third way".

Maybe Craven's off to pastures new and running this stuff because it doesn't matter to him anymore if he has a good relationship with the Bulls.

Like FA and Adey said, the statement isn't an unequivical backing of the three members of staff, could be they might be tempted to go elsewhere if their contracts are unlikely to be renewed.

Ridiiculous I know but if they were about to be made redundant they'd maybe seek other employment possibly out of the game altogether? Union?

Back to the plot, though, in this new era of supposed glasnost betwen club and fans (Bullsnost?) now that we blew our last playoffs chance, it would have been very interesting to have some comment, any comment from the club about the future. By just saying what they have and nothing more, the clear message people are taking from it is that next year nothing is going to be changed.

I do blame the T&A as well, for quite some time they seem to make very little effort to get regular and detailed comment from the club on any of the myriad questions the fans are asking. Isn't that their job?

In this climate I think I'd see out my guaranteed contract for another year....
