| I’d say we have two weeks to get a coach in. Ideally need one before Keighley at the Bash.
I’d be looking at:
McDermott
Anderson (if we can pry him from England duties for a few month)
Ward
Ford (unless he’s waiting to take over Applegarth)
I’d even take Noble until the end of the season if he wants it (and we actually perform a proper search for the end of the season).

That quote was a disaster for the club. It can't be another 10 week interview process. Indentify the person you want, approach him and get him signed up like York did with Henderson.

| McDermott would be an improvement but he has just got a job in the NRL so I can't see him wanting to return to the Championship.
Ford will likely get the head coaches job at Wakefield in the Championship next season.
I'm struggling to think of any decent coaches who are available and would want to apply for the bloody job.

Tbf I thought McDermott had only got a consultancy gig so might be tempted by a coaching one. Whoever it is, needs to be the right one.

Surely not given how irrelevant we are these days?? Although others do still reveal in our struggles which I always find bizarre.
Not sure who we get next or who would even want it. Biggest poisoned chalice in the game unfortunately.

| I don't care who comes in but they need to identify what's causing the capitulations and rid ourselves of the rot. This madness started under Kear and hasn't properly gone away since. Is it one or two bad apples dragging the full group down?

| Sorry for Dunning. He did a good job of ship-steadying initially and then got shut of most of the overweights, with the others returning very much trimmer this season.
Odd that he was in charge for the signings of Segeyaro & Baitieri then not afforded the time to see if they effected an upswing in results.

| I must say it is one of those times where despite calling for a new coach, I still feel disappointed. I've never met Mark Dunning but he does come across as a decent guy who did his best for the club but was ultimately let down by the players.
I do think the board have to be accountable as well. They did a fantastic job of convincing some supporters that it was all John Kears fault. But they appointed a rookie coach to appoint him who didn't exactly set the world alight during his interim period. I can't say I feel that confident they will make a better decision this time around.. but we can live in hope. We've certainly had our fair share of dross despite a reasonable Championship budget to work with.
If there are some bad apples in the squad, they ought to be following MD out the door.

I’m one of the people who thought he should never have got the job. I have no doubt he’s a nice guy and loves the club. But he was out of his depth and needed to go. You say the players have let him down, and I partially agree. But if that’s the case, where were the changes? Being nice gets you nowhere. He unfortunatley didn’t have the tactical nouse to change things for the better. He was a great youth coach so I am sad he’s not continuing in that sort of capacity as he would have been a good asset in that respect.
On paper we have a very good squad (albeit some injuries). The new coach needs to get the best out of them. How long are Holmes and Lawrence out for?

McDermott’s title is ‘Senior Assistant’ at Newcastle Knights so i doubt he’s heading back over here for a while.
Danny Ward is wanting to get back into RL apparently and applied for the Cas job. He looks the best bet out there.

| Whoever comes in will have to deal with a number of issues. First and foremost is the club business model that means there is an over reliance on loans and dual reg that causes inconsistency. Second is the fact that we have an over reliance in certain players at halfback and hooker who are either past it, not good enough or not prepared to put the effort in.
Sadly I think we'll continue with Greenwood in charge and see no visible improvement on the field.
The post match interview yesterday was pretty scathing so it's not a surprise he's gone. I don't blame him for giving the players both barrels. They've let him down.

Long has been an assistant since retirement with:
Salford
Samoa (2013 and 2017 WC and 2014 4N)
St Helens
Harlequins (RU)
France (2021 WC)
So plenty of experience building under some very good coaches. Plus he’s backed up by Leon Pryce who has actually had experience coaching Workington. So it’s not as if Fev gave the reigns to someone who’s only ever been at one club and never coached at a senior level before.

| Tbh I think whoever comes in next needs to get a fans signature saying “ we are not a super league club and the history of 20 odd years ago as no relevance on our current expectations otherwise we will alway be failures playing in the modern day equivalent of a dilapidated Roman coliseum “ what we do in life echoes in eternity but never let that achievement weigh down on what you do in the now otherwise you will be forever on your knees begging for days gone bye .

| As I said on another thread the club aren't thinking strategically, and I'd have replaced Mark before the break and given someone these 5 'easier' games to come in and build momentum. I also feel for Mark he's a good man who bleeds RAB, but he should never have been asked to get us out of this league, under the conditions he was asked to do so.
I don't think it matters who comes in if the vision, strategy or the tactics to achieve the vision are unclear, they will fail. So the clubs administrators need to take a long hard look at themselves, what is it they're trying to achieve, where do they want to go, do we have the right strategy and tactics to get there?
For example if the tactics to achieve a strategic goal are to use loan's and dual registration, then we may need a certain type of coach and particularly one that's been successful in that model before, perhaps someone like John Duffy, but if the strategy is to grow more organically, slow and steady building on the back of our academy Mark might have been the guy as those young players would have had some respect for him and what he did for them. We need to find someone that is the right who, for the strategy and tactics we're deploying.
When the club have figured that out, we might start going somewhere!
P.S. I'd still go fishing in the Queensland or NSW Cup for a hungry aussie like Luke Burt at Burleigh Bears, but not sure we're much of a pull anymore

I think ourselves and Fev are in quite different situations! They have been a consistent Championship side over many seasons and the benefit of an open chequebook when required. In my opinion we need somebody with a bit of credibility who the understands the league and what is required at this level.

Didnt we do that once and end up with a coach that didn't realise before a major game that the Fev pitch had a slope?!
For what it is worth, I'm not totally against the idea but I think it.brings further risk. Getting used to the league, settling in the country etc.. I'd still prefer a safe pair of hands who knows exactly what is required.
